Buses Burned in Rio De Janeiro Slum
Buses Burned in Rio De Janeiro Slum

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil - Residents of Cidade de Deus, the Rio de Janeiro slum featured in the film "City of God" that was nominated for four Oscars (news - web sites), burned two buses Sunday in a protest against alleged police killings.

The bus burnings came after a drug trafficker and two teenage bystanders were killed in a shootout between police and a drug gang in the western Rio slum, Globo News television reported.

Police close to Cidade de Deus only confirmed that residents of the slum burned the buses near the shantytown, but said they did not know the motive.

A police officer denied reports of police killings.
