Did US sell or give chemical weapons to Saddam?
I'm pretty sure the answer is yes. If anyone can provide a link/source, I would greatly appreciate this. Also, the year would be helpful (1985?)

And were the weapons then used on Iran? Did the U.S. govt. know that is what SH was going to do with them?

And when the accusation is thrown around that SH gassed his "own" people - referring to the Kurds - can anyone confirm for me that this is true? If so, when did it happen? (Weren't the Kurds supposedly not under SH control? Were they sovereign?) Did the U.S. sell the alleged chemical gas to SH this time too and did the govt. knew this was his intention? It's my understanding the U.S. encouraged the Kurds to rise up against SH at the end of the '91 Gulf War and then when SH gassed them, the U.S. was not around to back the Kurds up. (Again, links/sources would be great.)

One last question....isn't it against the Geneva Convention for any country/individual to sell chemical weapons to another country/individual? And if so, has this been the law (via Geneva) since the end of WWII?

I can do my own research, but there are so many knowledgeable DUers that I thought I'd save myself a little time and see if anyone has bookmarked links that are easily accessible.

The reason for all the questions/requests for clarification are....I would like to refute a RWer's claims regarding this subject and I would like to have all the facts.

Thanks!

The National Security Archives in Washington. Stuff released under FOIA, they knew what they were selling... Like usual, Kissinger involved. (If memory serves correctly).

(Lazy rookie comp-guy - you'll have to copy and paste).

Oops, I guess the link works.
