Eight Russian workers kidnapped in Baghdad
Lots of people are paying the price for the Bush gang's incompetence.

Eight Russian workers kidnapped in Baghdad

The Russian Foreign Ministry has confirmed that eight Russians were kidnapped Monday in Iraq, after media reports citing Al Jazeera said the Russians were kidnapped in Baghdad after a shootout between their Iraqi guards and the abductors, MosNews reports. “I confirm... that eight employees of the Interenergoservis company in Baghdad have been kidnapped,’’ Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Yakovenko said in televised comments.

Moscow is looking into the possibility of evacuating all Russians currently stationed in Iraq via emergency planes, a ministry source told Interfax Tuesday.

Yakovenko, meanwhile, has denounced the kidnappings, saying they are the result of escalating violence “which coalition forces are responsible for,” RIA Novosti quoted the foreign ministry spokesman as saying.

Altogether, there are about 600 Russian specialists working in Iraq, mostly in the oil sector. Russia opposed U.S.-led military operations in Iraq and has not contributed any forces to the U.S.-led coalition there.

2. true, but
I thought it was very telling that the Russian foreign minister has identified the strategy of the US military ("coalition forces") as the cause of the escalation in violence.
