The Sunnis are waging an insurgency with weapons, the Shiites with the ballot box and Friedman still can't get it right after two years of shilling for the invasion.

Regrettably, democracy was never on the table in Iraq. The choice was between theocrats and colonial puppets. For me, that would be a choice between being shot or hanged.

The Iraqi people didn't vote for democracy because they couldn't. But they did vote against Bush's colonial piracy. Friedman has never understood that this war is Mr. Bush's and the neoconservatives' war, not the one he would have liked to have fought.

and, yes, jack rabbit, you're right that Friedman has never understood that about the war, but still, the article did provide interesting perspective
