Blog Roll-Up Of CNN Breaking The Law While Buying A .50 Cal
Triggerfinger.com

FLASH! CNN Violated Federal Firearms Law! Based on my conversations with legal experts within the firearms industry, CNN did indeed violate at least one, and probably two, federal firearms laws in their reporting of the .50 caliber controversy last week. Representatives of the industry are currently in touch with the ATF. More to come.

Lots of links, lots of details.

1. CNN sure proved how easy it was to get one.
I thought it was an excellent report and pretty scary. Most people who buy one probably won't be that worried if they stretch a few laws.

2. Funny link...it's all about "gotcha CNN"......
you would think the trigger happy freepers on that site would be a little less gung ho about someone being prosecuted for automatic weapons violations.....

3. and the point is ...
?

No one else would ever break the law in this way?

What was CNN's point, and how does what it did negate that point? That's what I'm wondering.

Or maybe nobody's saying it did. Just an amusing fact for us to was indignant about, maybe.

Tsk. Naughty CNN.

4. I look at it the same way as the media trying to smuggle
a weapon or fake bomb onto an airplane to prove how lax airport security is and applaud them for it even if it's against the law.

6. that is one clusterfuck of a webpage
All the excitement of CNN breaking the law but what law(s) they broke is too much of a mystery for even the person who wrote the page. Guess you don't really have to know what is happening, its important just to be in the pipeline and keep the information flowing.

Oh, and :toast: to the always honest gun sellers. :eyes:

8. From what I've read...
on other forums it goes something like this.

There is nothing illegal in Texas for a private individual to buy a gun with cash from another private individual with no background check. Thats the way private sales work, if you buy a gun from a dealer though you have to get a background check. What CNN did there was not illegal.

What they did that was illegal was that the person who bought the gun in Texas then gave the gun to another person in Georgia (CNN HQ in Atlanta I presume). Its against federal law to tranfer a gun to a person in another state without going through gun dealers.

The person in Texas was supposed to go to a dealer in Texas, and the Texas Dealer was supposed to contact a dealer in Georgia to arrange shipping and to make sure that the laws in Georgia allowed for said weapon to be owned there. If everything was okay then the person in Georgia would go to the Georgia dealer and pick up thier weapon.

I personally disagree with the law because I think its too much bueracracy and too much of a hassle, and obviously as CNN showed its worthless too since you can just drive the weapon across state lines or ship it as you please anyways.

9. IMO It would be a better story...
If the ATF pressed charges then then those responsible could have a real story about how easy it is for an average person to get screwed over by the ATF and face a potential felony conviction over laws that make little to no sense.
