1. I believe your title "Iowans get it!" is incorrect. What you post as a
link is the opinions of a special interest group.

Do you have evidence that the majority of Iowans support a continued AWB?

2. Ok
No, an Iowa anti-gun group gets it.

I see it for what it is also-------

"Though the bill Clinton signed purportedly targets only "assault weapons," the loose definitions and expansive goals of the antigun lobby will almost certainly lead to a vast expansion of weapons to be seized. And, as the experience of several states and New York City shows, the destruction of the Second Amendment via political demagoguery has already progressed much further than most Americans realize."

3. But the gunloons never get it.
As Michael Moore asks, since the 2nd Amendment only says "arms": 'Should everyone be able to own nuclear weapons?' (Now, remember that Moore is a life-long member of the NRA.)

4. Notice that missles are restricted under the NFA of 1934
You wouldn't be able to run out and buy one.

5. You can own a nuclear weapon if you really want one
There is no law against a civilian owning one. You'd have to come up with money to buy it, and comply with a whole bunch of permits and licenses to guarantee that you transport and store it safely.

I have no personal objection to you owning a nuke if you really want one.

6. There is no reason to have these guns on the street
and every reason to take them off...including the fact that voters WANT them off the street.

8. What is it with Michael Moore?
Is he some demigod to the anti-gun movement?

"Our leader and intellectual counselor, Michael Moore, says we should feel this way about guns..."

...or Mary Rosh...

or Tom DeLay....

or John AshKKKroft...

13. You could actually
pay attention to issues once in a while instead of just regurgitating this stale NRA crap...

Or you could ask yourself what the hell you're doing on the same side as John AshKKKroft, Ted Nugent and Tom DeLay.

7. It would seem that...
...whoever drafted the AWB should be very embarassed for writing such a piss poor bill.

"Unfortunately, soon after the assault weapons ban took effect, gun manufacturers began circumventing the ban by making minor modifications to their assault weapons, renaming them, and marketing them as legal post-ban products. An example is the Colt Match Target Rifle, which is functionally identical to the Colt AR-15 that was banned by name in the 1994 assault weapons ban. Other gun manufacturers began producing clones of banned assault weapons. The Bushmaster XM-15 and Olympic Arms PCR-6 are nothing but clones of the AR-15.
The result is that in spite of the 1994 assault weapons ban, military-style, semiautomatic assault weapons are just as available today than they were prior to the 1994 ban. Gun manufacturers openly boast of their ability to evade the current ban."

If they couldn't predict that a few minor changes to a gun would make it 'legal' they must have been pretty stupid.

12. I think the net effect of the AWB was to increase the number of AWs
The feature ban spurred manufacturers to change their designs to make compliant weapons. The publicity given the subject aroused many peoples' curiousity. We Americans have a rebellious streak in our culture and sometimes buy or do things that are perceived as edgy if not outright forbidden.

The choices of configurations available among AR-15 clones today vastly outnumber those one could find in 1994.

Bushmaster Firearms offered just a few models back then. Look at their public catalog today:

http://www.bushmaster.com/shopping/weapons/

And their newest product line:

http://www.bushmaster.com/shopping/Carbon15/

You can thank the authors of the 1994 ban for forcing Bushmaster to stray from the "classic" A2 configuration. Of course many additional versions are available for law enforcement use.
