National Rifle Association urging immediate grassroots action on HB12
http://www.ofccpac.org/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=756

Ohio's House of Representatives has passed House Bill 12, sponsored by Rep. Jim Aslanides, to allow law-abiding citizens who have taken a training course to obtain a permit to carry a concealed handgun for personal protection.

The Ohio Senate, however, passed a version of HB 12 that would require a permit holder traveling in a car with anyone under age 18 to secure his handgun in a locked box. This provision would make the firearm useless for self-defense and render the Right-to-Carry law meaningless.

So I see that you feel the same way about the 2nd ammendment, as the freepers do about the 1st.

Yes, the ENTIRE Bill of Rights is about Civil rights.

Ignore any one of them at our peril.

Gotta admit, that is one of the silliest notions I've seen in a long time....the NRA is a civil rights organization.

"So I see that you feel the same way about the 2nd ammendment, as the freepers do about the 1st."
Not me...I think every state ought to have a well-regulated militia...and they do. It's called the National Guard.

The KKK laughs at the notion that blacks are entitled to rights under the Bill of Rights as well.

Bushs laughs at the notion that we are all entitled to privacy and the right to due process.

Go ahead and laugh...you have alot of company.

I've never seen a KKK, nor neo-nazi nor any other hate group at a gun-show.

But you tell me since you are a member.

Where do the people who wish to deny certain people their rights guaranteed to them hang out? Coffee shops perhaps?

I believe all people should be allowed to exercise ALL their rights guaranteed until the consitition.

44. Gee, just about everybody else who goes to gun shows sees them
They're one of the first things sane people notice....

"Mask any surprise or disbelief. This will serve you particularly well when you're looking over some of the tables dotted with Swastika patches and white supremacist offerings, like The Turner Diaries and literature that denies the Holocaust."

http://www.lasvegasweekly.com/2003/05_15/news_upfront1.html

"Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh used to go to gun shows and sell Pierce's "The Turner Diaries." The book is about a race war that ends with every person of color around the globe exterminated by armies of whites."

http://www.progressive.org/Media%20Project%202/mpjj3002.html

"Van Dusen said that while he had not heard of the World Church of the Creator before last weekend, the group apparently recruits members at gun shows, he said. That, Van Dusen said, is a clear indication that weapons sales at gun shows need to be better regulated. "

http://archives.pioneerlocal.com/cgi-bin/ppo-story/archives/localnews/1999/sk/07-08-99-280470.html

"He also said members of his office have found K.K.K. hats and NAZI war materials at these shows.
"Gun shows are the biggest depository of hate literature in this county," Yaroslavsky said. "

http://sundial.csun.edu/sun/99f/99f/101199ne01.htm

And here's some RKBA "enthusiasts" speaking for themselves:

"If you are a vendor at flea markets or gun shows that sells KKK novelties or collectibles and would like to try to expand your sales you can list your items here also. Wholesalers welcome."

I just think that the founding fathers didnt plan on giving the government control of the militia. As i recall from history, they didnt trust the government and tried to limit its power. Does this sound like the type that would want the government to control the last line of defense from a tyranical government?

27. Congress acknowledged RKBA is a civil right when it passed the
law saying:

QUOTE
What constitutes a conviction of such a crime shall be determined in accordance with the law of the jurisdiction in which the proceedings were held. Any conviction which has been expunged, or set aside or for which a person has been pardoned or has had civil rights restored shall not be considered a conviction for purposes of this chapter, unless such pardon, expungement, or restoration of civil rights expressly provides that the person may not ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms.
UNQUOTE

See "TITLE 18 > PART I > CHAPTER 44 > Sec. 921. - Definitions"

The act of restoring "civil rights" includes RKBA and the act of taking away "civil rights" includes RKBA.

Its more like the leaders. The people who are members do it for many sporting reasons. I think you have to be an NRA member to participate in many NRA shooting events. Then you have sportsmen who want to perserve their sport of hunting or shooting clays.

3. I'm really surprised that this hasn't passed in Ohio
yet, since we're a really conservative state and the reps from the more rural, gun-oriented areas hold most of the clout in the state government.

Six weeks ago, I would have been foaming at the mouth at the thought of this passing in any way, shape, or form. But since my robbery experience, I've really changed in regards to this issue. Nothing like having the cold barrel of a gun being shoved in your ribs and then your neck, and having NOTHING to protect or defend yourself with while the pond scum low-life who's got your life in his hands has the weapon and all the power, to change your perspective!

I'm checking out the best place in my area for firearms training, btw, I've never even held a gun before so it should be interesting!

8. I agree...it is suprising
Ohio stands out like a sore thumb on this issue.

Ironically, progress on this issue has been held up by Republican governors. Both the current and previous Republican governors ran on promises to grant carry laws, but both quickly backed off after gaining office.

Even more Ironic, the best chance to get a Democrat Governor in Ohio now is proably a Dem who is true right to carry advocate.

...that is the most ridiculous provision that I have ever seen tacked onto a CCW law!

Why not just require the gun to be incased in lucite?

10. How does having to have the gun in a lock box only when there is
ANYONE UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE make the right-to-carry law meaningless?
I know people want to pin the "wants to take you guns away" lable on many liberals, but wanting protection & saftey for children when it comes to guns is not a bad idea.
If you don't want to lock up your gun in you car don't have kids, problem solved.

14. its just stupid
Why would it be needed might be a better question that maybe you could answer. There is no way in hell a kid is going to lift up your shirt, reach into your pants, and pull a gun out and use it. This was just put in there as a roadblock to keep the bill from passing.

The bigger danger would come from having to handle your gun every time you get in and out of your car. Accidental firing from constant handling and unloading and loading of your gun is more dangerous than driving your kid to school with a gun hidden in your purse.

58. So, you're saying...
it's OK for adults to have concealed guns to protect themselves, but they can't have a concealed gun to protect themselves and an infant? Sounds like age discrimination to me... If the law was set up so that you couldn't leave an unlocked gun with somebody under 18 when there was no adult present, I'd have much less of a problem with it. That's not what this law does.

This would be at least the 4rth state this year to become RTC.
