Purse containing handgun stolen from Bayfield school
By Shane Benjamin
Herald Staff Writer The Bayfield School District sent a letter home with all of its students Wednesday advising parents that a purse containing a handgun was stolen from a parked car last week at the elementary school.
On the same day the letter was sent home, the Bayfield Marshal's Office recovered the stolen gun, although the contents of the purse have not been returned, said deputy Rick Ervin.
The gun was turned in by an adult, Ervin said. He declined to identify the person who turned in the gun, but an investigation is continuing. He did not know if the adult has children who attend the elementary school.
The woman who had the gun stolen from her car is Patricia Fowler. She did not return a phone call Wednesday night.
