2. Nope...Knob Creek the Gun Range...
it's a big get-together for people with machineguns...We'll shoot several million rounds in 3 days, and blow a bunch of stuff up. It has a spectacular night shoot, lots of tracers and things that go "Boom!"

4. You are misinformed
Private citizens who have enough money and no criminal record can own automatic weapons in most states.

Read and learn. Start at http://www.atf.gov/firearms/nfa/index.htm

5. Your understanding is incorrect...
they're heavily regulated by Federal law, but still legal in most states.

There's always a heavy BATFE presence at the machinegun shoots, but it's quite legal.

8. Don't feel bad about not having known that
Edited on Mon Oct-06-03 04:48 PM by slackmaster
After I spent a day shooting machine guns in Nevada and showed my highly intelligent, educated, politically aware mom some pictures of the event I was surprised to learn that SHE was not aware that private citizens could own automatic weapons. She was born in 1934, the very year that the National Firearms Act was passed.

9. I envy you
I went last year.

Illinois is one of the states where no one can own a select fire weapon, unless you are a politicians body guard of course.

I doubt that any of us would ever get the CLEO approval anyway.

I went last year on the way to visit my son at Ft. Rucker and it was indeed a blast in every way. Got to play with Ma Deuce for the first time since mustering out in '71. We were shooting up what I think started out as a Toyota. Hard to tell after several hundred .50 rounds.

Expensive toy but definitely worth it and probably less than I would have lost in Vegas.

Go, have fun and don't forget your industrial strength hearing protection!

11. I would own a FA except
for the following reasons:

1. My city is too big. No way on earth our CLEO is going to sign off on it

2. I won't hand over my 4th ammendment right so the BATFE can crawl up my ass anytime they see fit.

3. I refuse to pay $16K for a select fire M-16. I won't go through all that for what amounts to an AR-15 with three round burst. Something worth it like a M60 or M249 is worse. The last pre-ban 249 I saw sold for $60K.

Unless anything changes, I'll just have to drool over everyone else's Class III.

:)

13. that is only for dealers
Owning class 3 does not allow the BATFE to go into your home, being a dealer does.

18. Solution for you?
I am not going to even try to dig it up unless you are 100% serious about wanting a full auto gun on par with the saw.
I saw a post on another BB about an upper you connect to your M-16 lower that allows belt fed ammo and interchangable barrels. It was described as "the poor mans saw"

I had fun. It wasn't TOO muddy. I got some good deals (7.62x39 ammo $65/K, loaded up the car with it.) I hurt. :)

16. New Springs are a requisite
If you go there too often.

By the time I wound up picking up some 30.06, in bandoleers, some Mauser ammo and a few other bits and pieces my truck was down on the frame I think.

But it was worth the trip. BTW, I think rain is a requisite for the shoot.

Wish we'd have been able to meet up! :)

BTW, rain is good...makes for better and safer night shoots....less fire set by the tracers.

See anything interesting? I was looking for a PPSH-41. There were a few there, but they wanted $12,500 for them (amnesty registered/vet bringbacks). That's too rich for my blood for a $6000 gun...

Did you make it to Mark's Feed Store? Yummmmm...ribs!!! :)

BTW, didja see a guy there with a blue mohawk while wandering around? If so, you probably saw me... Also, hope you made it to the Patton Museum....their King Tiger and T-28 ROCK!!!
