2. Four Men Arrested For Murder Of Armored Car Guard

"Atlanta -- Four men from Georgia have been charged with an attempted armed robbery that left a 28-year-old armored car guard dead two weeks ago. Another man -- also from Georgia -- already had been arrested.
Guard Moustafa Koura was killed by gunshots as he and another guard approached the front door of the bank. The second guard was hit by several shots, but authorities say he managed to return fire."

Zero-tolerance gun policy runs counter to gun-safety classes at school

WINONA, MINN. -- When Nick Ziegeweid signed up for a firearms safety course at Winona Middle School earlier this fall, he was told to bring his shotgun. Better to learn how to handle the equipment he'd use when hunting than to have an instructor show him how to handle a gun he'd never seen.

But when the 12-year-old boy attended his first class Oct. 11, school administrators and instructors met him and about 40 other students outside the school to remind them they couldn't bring their guns inside.

The reason: the district's year-old "zero-tolerance" policy prohibits students from carrying guns on school grounds, even if they are unloaded and used only for instructional purposes.

"I think with all that's gone on, for me, I'm OK with them not having the guns," said Debbie Ziegeweid, Nick's mother. "I think it bothered my son more, just because he was ready to learn how to use it."

Gun tragedy hits family a 2nd time

It is a loss so chilling that one police lieutenant called it "a parent's worst nightmare."

On Sunday afternoon, it struck the Saechao family for the second time.

Their 8-year-old son Darren was fatally shot in a neighbor's back yard, across the street from his home, as he and a young cousin were handling a shotgun, Sacramento Police Lt. Michael Bray said.

The accidental shooting came less than three years after the boy's older sister, Nai Saechao, the only girl in a family with four brothers, was accidentally shot and killed at a different neighbor's home.

The annual gun show at the Rutland Holiday Inn is a chance for enthusiasts to check out high powered automatic rifles and antiques,. and maybe even purchase a gun for the upcoming season.

"You can see what you get right here," Brent Hale of New Haven says as he looks for his purchase, "see the guns, that's what I really like to see is the guns instead of mail order."

Hale is a hunter looking to gear up for the upcoming deer season. He is one of many hunters at this show.

"Most of your gun shows," Maurice Randall of Randall Firearms observes, "the people coming in, they're hunters, whether it be deer hunters or even bird hunters, even a lot of target shooters."

8. Man Fatally Shot Outside Local Store

"Police are looking for two males after a 25-year-old man was fatally shot outside a store Sunday afternoon near the intersection of Forest Avenue and Vine Street.
Carlos Manuel, 25, was shot in a car around 2:10 p.m. in the parking lot of a Cold & Quick store, police said.
Witness told police Manuel was arguing with two males. Manuel entered someone else's car in an attempt to escape the males, but he was shot several times in the vehicle, witnesses told police. "

LIVINGSTON -- One of three masked men who forced their way into a home on a quiet, residential street here early Saturday was shot and killed -- apparently by one of his victims.

Two of the home's occupants -- identified by neighbors as a middle-aged man and his son-in-law -- also were shot in what police are calling a home invasion robbery.

Apparently, he said, the victims put up a fight and the intruders opened fire. The critically wounded man wrestled a handgun away from one of the gunman, chased him out of the house and shot him in the front yard, Eldridge said.

Police do not believe the victims had guns inside their home. "There were shots fired inside the home and outside," Eldridge said.

"Three masked men wearing gloves and armed with handguns forced their way into the home through a front door," he said.

"The gunmen then went down a hall to a bedroom where they confronted the victims," Eldridge said.

Eldridge said it was unknown Saturday if the three men who broke into the victims' home have any connection with a gang that committed numerous home invasions recently in rural areas of Modesto, Ceres, Turlock, Keyes and Denair since January.

Seems to me, there would have been plenty of time to grab a shotgun while the boys were busting down the front door. I would be willing to bet that a few shotgun blasts would have prevented injury to the innocent homeowners.

Oh, thats right- call the police on your cell phone and wait to be rescued by other people carrying guns. I am curious if they had a steel entry door and dogs? Maybe they had a neighborhood watch program? I bet all the neighbors would have enjoyed watching the gunfight!

I have noticed a disturbing trend in home invasion type robberies- they are becoming common. I hope "gangs" like these run into a few armed households, thats the only way these criminals will come to the conclusion that bank robbery is much safer.

11. 3rd suspect sought in slaying gives up

"A third suspect in the shooting death of 8-year-old Kyron Butler was arrested after turning himself in at the Smithfield police station late Saturday, said Police Chief Mark Marshall.
Kyron's mother found him dead in bed in the family's unit at the Jersey Park Apartments. He apparently was hit by one of at least 25 shots fired Thursday night during an outdoor gun battle between gangs, Marshall said.
Seven apartments in six buildings were hit, he said. Police found casings indicating that at least four weapons were used: 9 mm and .45-caliber guns, a 12-gauge shotgun and a .223-caliber assault-style rifle."

"Lakewood police have identified a suspect in a weekend shooting that left a 23-year-old man dead.
Police said Sunday they are looking for Stewart Gaskin, 50. About 9 p.m. Saturday, investigators responded to reports of a loud argument at an apartment complex at 620 S. Vance St. Several neighbors reported hearing a possible gunshot. Police found the victim, Richard L. Farley, in a stairwell. He died at the scene."

"Police say a 6-year-old boy took a pistol and ammunition to his Northside elementary school last week.

18. Arrest Made In Accidental Shooting Death

"An 8-year-old boy was killed Sunday when he another boy were playing with a loaded shotgun and the weapon discharged.
"They found a gun and they were playing with it ... I guess the gun accidentally went off ... I guess he shot himself," the victim's cousin, Lai Saechou, said.
Police said Monday that the boy's 15-year-old cousin hid the gun in a chicken coop, and that's where the two younger boys discovered it. Investigators said the 15-year-old boy threw the gun into an alley after the shooting. He has been arrestd and faces a charge of gun possesion.
This is not the first time a member of the Saechou family has been the victim of an accidental shooting. The 8-year-old boy's sister was accidentally shot and killed less than three years ago."

"A man is recovering at a local hospital after he was shot four times in broad daylight Monday.
The shooting happened at about 2:30 p.m. near the intersection of 15th and Race streets in Over-the-Rhine, WLWT Eyewitness News 5's Raegan Butler reported.
