2. My coworker has been bragging lately about all his recent firearm purchases
All are semi-auto assault weapons. I always respond with something like, "Man, you're sooooooo cool!" or "I guess the squirrels need to be on high alert". It really pisses him off.

I also always make sure to ask if he has done the full-auto modifications yet so he can kill more squirrels faster. He has never said yes, but I can tell by his smirk that he has.

9. If your joking around, fine, but...
I also always make sure to ask if he has done the full-auto modifications yet so he can kill more squirrels faster.

You do know that this is a fable don't you? That modern semiautos aren't convertible? That it would be almost as easy and require the same equipment to start with stock steel and manufacture a complete auto from scratch as it would to make the needed parts to perform a conversion of a semiauto? That making an auto from scratch or doing a fabled conversion would make a person eligible for 10 years in federal prison for each? Just sayin'..

18. Depends on the rifle.
For the AR-15, you need Bolt, sear, trigger, hammer, safety. Obtaining those parts are surely easier than machining the entire weapon from the ground up.

BUT, to make the parts would indeed require the same skills and tools as making the entire rifle. Buying a 'kit' is a sure way to get federal agents knocking on your door.

But I agree with the sentiment, a lot of people seem to think it just takes filing off a tab or something, but it's much more than that. Some rifles require direct machining work to the receiver, new parts (substitution of available parts, as the law states) that are missing, or new parts that are configured differently.

21. My point is that not only is it not easy
it rarely, RARELY ever happens with modern semiautos. I have posted the l1nk to the youtube file with the armorer from LAPA testifying that in his 10 years with the unit having seen over 50,000 weapons taken off the streets of LA he has never seen a converted semiauto. If semis were being 'converted' at the rate this poster seems to think you would think that there would be an automatic weapon crime problem in the US, there isn't, in fact there hasn't been a crime committed with a fully automatic weapon in the US in over 10 years to my knowledge. Semi autos are not being converted by his coworker or anyone else.

fingrpik posted it here. ;)

It reminds me of the one that goes "what does the bible say about abortion?" and you click and the bible opens and the page is blank. Damned if I've been able to find that one lately.

... Found it!

Maybe I'll adopt the format for regular use in the Guns forum ...

13. er.. read Obama's platform?
No sense trying to paint the fact that the Obama administration openly wants a permanent ban on 'assault' weapons as tinfoil hattery. It's part of his platform, on his website and has been discussed elsewhere.. am i confused about something / misunderstanding you?

... read anything in the platform or on the website or anywhere else to suggest that confiscation of firearms will take place?

As I have said before: Obama / the Democratic Party won the election. Get over it.

19. Did i express some regret that our party won?
You're reading way too far into what is a factual matter. Confiscation of existing firearms will probably not take place, but a slicing of the Second Amendment almost certainly will.. taking the right to own a legal firearm is nonsense.

22. Do you think that people are buying assault rifles because they think someone will confiscate them?
Could it possibly be because they think Obama might do what he says he will do and they won't be able to buy one next summer? I know that requires some logic to get to that point, but I bet if you think real hard and turn off the TV you can get there.

20. I wonder why they say yet?
Not really very reassuring considering the stated intended policies on change.gov. Also it would be hard for a President Elect who has no Constitutional power to take anything. So really it's just plain stupid.

I like it, but it needs to be a pop-up book.

When you open it, a cricket pops up and a little microchip thing makes a few chirping noises.

14. Um.
You're kidding, right? Why are people denying that this exists on Obama's website:

"Obama and Biden would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent."

i mean, i have many questions about this... what the hell is a childproof gun? How does a permanent assault weapons ban support the Second Amendment rights of gun owners?

But there is little question that a ban on "assault" weapons is a likely event in the next four (eight?) years.. this is not a fringe position. And this definitely counts as 'taking our guns away.' It hasn't happened yet... of course, he's not President yet. Correlation?

17. This gag again?
Very few people anticipate firearm confiscation during Obama's presidency.

Most people anticipate bans on future sales of firearms, just like we had with the last assault weapons ban.

A renewed assault weapon ban is part of both the Democratic Party Platform and Obama's agenda on his web site.

A ban on the sale of firearms is nearly as bad as confiscation.
