Juliette man defends home from invasion
ULIETTE — Marvin Bowdoin was sitting at his desk when the “cat bandit” kicked in his kitchen door Tuesday night, he said.
It was shortly after 9 p.m. The 67-year-old Juliette grocer said he and his wife arrived at their residence on Juliette Road just in time to watch the last 30 minutes of “American Idol.” It had been a late closing at the family’s general merchandise store, Bowdoin’s Grocery.

“When I sat down, I heard that door crash open for some reason and I knew someone was in the house.” Bowdoin said within seconds the intruder had gone from the kitchen to the dining room and nearly to the foyer with a shotgun in hand.
That’s where Bowdoin stopped the bandit — firing two shots from his .22 Magnum revolver. “I tried to do my best to protect my family,” he said. “This weapon was in my pocket. I tote a weapon every day of my life. It’s never away from me at any point. It’s some mean folks out there.” The invader, not injured, fell to the floor before standing up and running back into the kitchen and out of the home. Bowdoin didn’t chase the person or keep firing.

snip

“I’m just glad me and my wife are alive,” he said.

1. Bowdoin, short of scoring a strike, was textbook.
At least it seems.

I'm glad they're okay as well.

2. I think I would opt for a little larger caliber. If you have to do it, make it count.

7. More importantly if you have to you want it to carry some authority
If you have to shoot someone you want them to cease hostilities for whatever reason it takes before they kill you or someone else. Many people have been killed with .22 LR and I'm guessing WMR as well, but they frequently don't die until a significant amount of time passes and are fully mobile and capable of continuing their attack even though they are already basically dead.

10. I'd love a Crimson Trace or a Lasermax for either of mine
But I think I'll just have to rely on a stern tone and the hope that they won't think they are in a gangstarr movie where they need to prove how not cowardly they are to their friends. Or totally deranged. Either way I think this guy lucked out that the shotgun-wielding burglar (I'm going to call him a robber from now on, burglars neither break into occupied residences nor carry offensive weaponry with them. A small handgun, out of sight out of mind, maybe, but burglars do not carry shotguns or rifles. Armed robbers do) didn't try to return fire, especially since he already missed twice out of six or seven rounds available from his small revolver. Also, had the robber fired back, he would have been in a shooting situation with a small .22 Mag revolver against a man armed with a shotgun. It would have been a cold day in hell before he safely got out of that mess if it had gone down like that.

Lucky man, hopefully he learns his lesson about carrying a gun made for rodents as a defense weapon against humans.

13. Does it stay zeroed at least?
I think if I do get a laser, it will be Crimson Trace style, I always thought the Lasermax was the coolest thing in school, but so many people seem to feel exactly the way you do about them, I can't spend that amount on one to see what happens.

14. It works ok
Not visible in daylight.Have tested it a twilight on a target.just pointed the dot a center and fired, was off by a inch..
It would be real good when you do not have time to sight on target dot the person and fire...

Crimson trace is to bulky. The lasermax replaces that plastic piece that holds the recoil spring in place which i would recommend all glock owners do,have seen some nice titanium ones for sale...

15. Love my Crimson Trace grips
I have three so far.

One on my 1911 for HD. Another on a Beretta 92FS and a third on my Kel Tec P32.

Even on the .45 with +P Golden Saber or Cor Bon it stays zeroed.

Looking into adding one to the Charter Arms Undercover .38 special that my wife uses.

It's no substitute for practice, but as my eyes get older and having some first hand experience with tunnel vision under stress, they are comforting to have on hand. Easy to mount and zero too. They come zeroed for 50 feet but since I don't have any hallways that long in my home I pulled them in to about 20 feet when I zeroed them.

17. I got nothing against the crimson
i like that the laser max is tucked away inside the gun.
My sight is starting to age,so if i have to shoot i will dot the intruder, rather than trying to sight him on the gun,if i am off by a inch on a chest shot i think a 357sig will allow for that.
Of course this is worse case scenario,i do not want to give the view to anti-gunners that i sit at home waiting..

Be prepared...Thats all i am saying

11.  I have always held that
if you have to put a hole in somebody, make it as big as possible. My preference is .45cal.

5. Gang related violence...
Same old same old. Criminals behaving badly in public with no regard for where their bullets stop.

16. I missed the part where they found out is was a concealed carry permit holder?
I'm sure that must be why you felt a crime report of gang violence had to be posted in a thread about self defense.

Or are you one of "those" people that actually sees no legal, moral or ethical difference between defending yourself from a home invasion and a gang shootout?
