Robber Shot During Stick-Up Attempt
STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- The target of a robbery fought back Monday by pulling a gun and shooting and wounding the stick-up man.
The armed robber approached the man at the U-Wash carwash on Rockbridge Road.
The would-be victim pulled his own gun and opened fire, hitting the robbery suspect.
The wounded man was taken to the hospital where he's in stable condition and facing armed robbery charges.

1. And it begins.. the resort to violence to survive will continue to worsen.
Congress better get off their butts soon, or they won't be even be safe behind their security gates.

2. It will worsen with the Vigilante movement advocates as well.
They even teach "Gun self-defense classes" where the students learn how to properly kill someone without facing criminal charges. They have a little room in the back where some go to masturbate.

5. So you thinks it's better to have untrained people carrying firearms?

17. The "vigilante movement" is something I haven't heard of...
I may be wrong, but somehow I believe that you are equating those who legally carry concealed firearms to vigilantes.

If so you are very confused.

Merriam-Websters OnLine Dictionary defines vigilante as:

: a member of a volunteer committee organized to suppress and punish crime summarily (as when the processes of law are viewed as inadequate) ; broadly : a self-appointed doer of justice.

I've known many individuals with concealed carry permits and none of them fit the above definition. People with CCW permits DO NOT go looking for an opportunity to use their weapon. They, in no way, feel that they have any requirement to act as police officers let alone as citizens with the mission of stopping criminal activity.

You state:

They even teach "Gun self-defense classes" where the students learn how to properly kill someone without facing criminal charges.

If you are talking from personal experience, you must have had an incredibly poor instructor. A good instructor will emphasize that you can only use your weapon to stop an attack where serious injury or death might result. He will also point out that handguns are not as deadly as portrayed in the movies or on TV. And he will definitely point out that you WILL face criminal charges if you misuse your weapon.

But since you also say:

They have a little room in the back where some go to masturbate.

Because of that statement, I think I can safely assume that:

1) You have absolutely no idea of what you are talking about.

2) You're merely trying to provoke an angry response from a pro-gun poster.

With that attitude and approach to life, I sincerely hope that you don't own firearms.

Have a nice day.

21. Yeah, sort of
Sometimes we just masturbate in the classroom. Private venue and all that. The classes actually teach when it is appropriate to use lethal force and when it is not, as well as teaching that you should always just try to avoid any situation that makes you feel you might potentially end up in a shooting incident. Road rage isn't cool and all, you know? Stay out of shitty neighborhoods at 3:30 A.M. if you can, all good things to follow when possible.

I'll leave it to the mods to decide when something needs to be the the topic forums. They do a pretty good job.

I do that with both health topics and gun topics. Sometimes they stay in GD, sometimes they get quickly moved.

7. That's odd, this is news. I think the instances of violence are becoming a problem.
Its also telling that that a person who would do the robbing is unarmed by a gun owner. It doesn't sound like the robber is very used to sticking people up... or maybe he is; just picked the wrong guy. We are going to see more and more of this... along with the suicided families.

22. He wasn't unarmed, he was shot
Why would we see more and more of this? Some robber (luckily for his community) picked a victim who has singlehandedly sent him upriver and hopefully drilled the enthusiasm right out of him. Hopefully he will look into education and social rehabilitation programs while he is locked up, turn himself around. Recidivism is a bigger problem than the brady campaign could ever hope concealed carry is.

And concealed carry has nothing to do with suicide, not sure why you brought that up.

13. While we are fantasizing...
While we are fantasizing, let's say a deranged campus shooter has a AK47 on full auto... It's possible, we all know it is. While he is spraying the class room, you, having a concealed carry permit, also have your $99.95 Glock knockoff on you. You're a student, that's all you can afford, ok?. Anyway you pull it out, look at your manhood griped in both of your hands as you try to remember which way the safety goes to be in the off position. Things aren't going quite as smooth as when you were fantasizing about saving the day while you are watching all those "Dirty Harry" type movies you like to watch, because your friends and classmates are bloody messes all around you. Anyway you get the safety figured out and fire at the shooter and miss because you are shaking so bad. That gets the shooters attention and he swings his auto fire in your direction as you fire a second time and hit another concealed carry behind the shooter, mortally wounding him. The other concealed carry was almost ready to pull his trigger and was close enough not to miss. The shooter shoots you. You last thoughts as you lay dying are "If only the government would let people carry fully automatic guns, this would not have happen and you would have saved the day and still be alive." The End.

18. Before you write a novel based on this fantasy...
at the minimum you need to understand that the Glock safety is in the trigger. Any knockoff of the Glock would have this feature. Oh, by the way, you might be able to buy a BB firing replica of a Glock for $99.95. One firearm similar to the Glock is the S&W Sigma. The 9mm Sigma sells for something around $350, the Glock $500.

Both the Smith and the Glock wear no external safety levers, except for the safety integrated into the trigger itself, which must be deliberately pulled to fire the weapon. Both pistols have internal firing pin blocks, to prevent firing unless the trigger is held rearward.
http://www.gunblast.com/SWSigma9.htm

It always drives me crazy when I'm reading a good story and the author screws it up by saying something like, "Joe pulled his Smith and Wesson .357 revolver, thumbed the safety off and pointed it at the robber." (Note: S&W revolvers don't have thumb safeties.)

23. Judging by the lack of full auto weapons used in crimes
Edited on Tue Feb-10-09 10:52 AM by tburnsten
I would say it isn't impossible, but it's getting awfully close.

There are no Glock knockoffs that cost anywhere near $100. Glock MSRP is rapidly closing on $600 right now, if it hasn't gone over that line, and similiar (I won't say knockoffs, because aside from the S&W Sigma and M&P pistols most people use "Glock Knockoff" to describe any poly framed autoloader.) pistols cost the same or more, and all of them are very high quality. Also Glocks, and many other pistols on the market today, use passive safeties rather than the old-style *off switch*.

Anyway aside from all your factual errors I only see one person fantasizing, and some other people discussing a real incident that actually happened, in real life.

on edit- Good thing for the New Life Church that Jean Assam didn't know she was supposed to be such a monumental fuckup.

28. This fantasy of yours is really poorly researched.
And it shows you know nothing of people who carry guns.(We just want to go about our average lives without getting killed by criminals) And you know nothing of active shooters. They almost always give up or commit suicide when somebody, anybody, confronts them with force. And civilians who carry are often better trained with guns than police.
But please compare your story to reality. Here is reality.
The active shooter moves about unchallenged by anybody. He goes from person to person murdering people who are curled up on the floor begging for their lives. He murders everybody he comes to until somebody stops him.

"Anyway you pull it out, look at your manhood griped in both of your hands"
- This is not recommended public behavior, particularly in a gunfight.

"as you try to remember which way the safety goes to be in the off position."
- Ahem. A man's "manhood" generally lacks a safety, though many an embarrassed junior highschooler has probably wished that such a thing existed.

"Anyway you get the safety figured out and fire at the shooter"
- Was this entire post meant to have as many homoerotic double entendres as an 80s action movie? Sheesh.
