Let's all join the NRA.
Why not? We don't like what they're doing and I don't like all the hate and fear they are spewing about the Obama administration. So the way I see it, they have what, a couple million members? So if we could just get, say, 3 million liberals who favor sane gun control laws we could completely change their agenda. It's just an idea, but hey, I'll try it if you guys will.

Then after I join the NRA I'm going to sign up for one of those stupid tea parties. See, the way I see it I'll just show up with a big Obama sign with 66% painted under his picture. Wouldn't that drive them nuts? And instead of throwing tea in the water I might just sit and have a tuna sandwich with Grey Pupon, and a piece of pie. Pecan anyone? If just a few of us showed up at each "protest" we would make a huge impact.

Someone has got to send MSM the message that Obama won, we don't want to revolt and at any given time 66% to 80% of the people these United States support and back our President and his policies.

So what do ya say, anyone up for some gun play and tea bagging? Er, I'm not sure that came out right.

1. My 45 dollars would be better spent elsewhere...
Just because you join them doesn't mean they are changing their agenda.

I'm not interested in handing them a $135 MILLION dollar war chest.

2. Well, I was kind of joking, but I think you're missing the point.
If the liberals out numbered the nuts in the NRA, and we had a 135 million war chest, then we could vote to use the money for Cheetos, or maybe to give everyone a nice pedicure.

5. You're making the assumption that the NRA is some kind of democracy that's gonna listen...
It already has an agenda and the members conform to THAT, not the other way around.

Give it a go if you'd like, whatever your motivations might be. Just be aware you'll need to keep your membership active 5 years before receiving voting privileges.

I think your idea is brilliant. There must be a gazillion examples of entrenched insanity we could undermind by making ourselves the majority...let's see...I'm trying to think of one....OH! Hey! Could it be the "Voting Public"?

Nah...why would I want to give my energy to that!?! I'm going to sit here and watch American Idol instead. THAT much I can control.

Where's the whimsy? The fun? The new and radical ideas? I honestly think we've been mad for so long we've lost our sense of humor. The bushies could do that to a person.

But keep in mind it was Abraham Lincoln who said, "If I make a friend of any enemy, have I not destroyed my enemy?"

I'm for making friends.

40. I proudly . . .
am a card carrying member of both of these fine organizations. While the ACLU fights for most of my other rights, the NRA fights for the 2nd. There are a few positions I'd like both of these organizations to change on, but I'll take them for what they are. They are effective.

19. I joined the NRA this year for two main reasons.
Edited on Tue Apr-07-09 11:02 PM by aikoaiko

1. No organization has a better (aleit imperfect at times) track record of defending law abiding folks 2nd Amendment rights.

2. I want to join the small cadre of NRA members who want them to play fairer (even if anti-gun groups distort the truth). I abhor the NRA's exaggerations of the kernels of truth. ets: Especially when it came to candidate Obama's positions.

So there you go...you thought you were being ironic.

23. Its take five years of consequetive membership to vote on board of directors.

And its the directors that really dictate the positions and strategies of the NRA.

I'm in it for the long haul. If I ever get enough cash together I'll get a life membership.

Yes, they seek members opinions, but I think I am in the minority.

24. I was an NRA member many years ago.
I'm still very much in favor of the second amendment and civilian gun ownership, but I found the NRA's regard for the Constitution was limited to the second amendment period.

They were, in contrast to their Constitutional reverence on the gun issue, very enthusiastic drug war cheerleaders.

I would not stay aligned with an organization that aids and abets a war on the American people.

Screw you NRA!

33. Oh you believe the NRA is in any subtantive way responsive to it's members
They listen to their war chest stuffers and unless you intend to be a sizable piece of that pie for a number of years to get the influence to alter the course then you're just pissing away money.

I'd also rethink Obama's popularity being any form of a mandate on gun control measures. Honestly, I think if gun control is a crucial issue with you then you should just keep your powder dry for a couple or three generations and then reassess the vibe at that time.

does have a common interest with gun-owners; protecting the natural, inherent, inalienable/unalienable right to keep and bear arms for self-defense.

With regard to protest crashing. I show up early to PeTA KFC protests with a couple of friends and a bucket of original(now we get the buffalo bites). It's a counterprotest, no fault in that.

I heard a commercial for a tea party in my town wherein the announcer actually said something to the effect of, "Let's teabag the big spenders in Washington." I had to pull off the road because I couldn't stop laughing. It's the most popular talk radio show in town.
