Linda Man Faces Firearm, Child Endangerment Charges

LINDA, Calif. -- Yuba County deputies have arrested a Linda father after his 14-year-old son accidentally shot his 12-year-old son in the head.

Investigators said that on Monday, the son of 42-year-old Tou Her took his father's handgun and loaded it, then pointed it at his brother.

The gun went off and struck the younger boy in the head. However, he is expected to survive.

Her is facing charges of criminal storage of a firearm and felony child endangerment.

but there is a lot of gun defense info out there. It's just more sensational to post these kinds of articles to push an anti gun agenda by people here who don't care if it divides the DU community. It's about as fair as Fox news. those articles are posted all the time. as are ones like this one where a kid uses a gun for something stupid, or there is an accidental shooting. but it is a hot topic, and people here cannot discuss them without breaking the rules. so, we have a gungeon.

I think about what could happen and decide it's just not worth the risk.

11. My dad taught my brother and me firearm safety when we were 6 and 10 years old

Both of us own them, we store and use them responsibly, and neither of us has ever had a problem with them because of what our dad did.

He had been a rifle instructor toward the end of his career in the Navy. He served in World War II. We were taught correctly.

Unfortunately, most kids don't have a parent who is anywhere near as well qualified to teach them how to be safe around weapons. Basic gun safety should be taught in public schools.

Trigger was pulled which released firing pin, which struck the primer, igniting the propelent, and firing the round.

The weapon worked exactly as it was designed.
The father on the other hand was defective.

that people should be responsible with their firearms, and consider an incident like this (in which the law was apparently not followed and a child was hurt as a result) to be tragic.

And if you're going to have a go at the "DU Gun Lobby" for posting on threads like this, I assume you also recognize that many anti-2A folks on DU swarm to posts like these to make policy arguments as well.

It doesn't just apply to spiderman. :)

If you own a firearm you are responsible for it.
If you are not responsible then you should suffer the consequences of your irresponsibility.
If you can't handle that then don't own a firearm.

24. You should see my son have a meltdown when someone points a gun near him.

Of course he is trained. He goes to great lengths to never point a gun at another person even by accident, loaded or not. And he makes it clear he doesn't want them pointed at him ever. He is 10.

26. The California Safe Storage Law

California has laws against this sort of incident. The Dad broke the law, and he will be prosecuted. Prior to the passage of the law he would have faced no charges.

That's Gun Control in action, one of the Gun Control laws I do agree with. Congrats.
