That is a massive amount of drugs. Oxycontin has the potential to be quite dangerous, as it is highly concentrated, designed to release hycodone over a long period.
I am a bit naive about its abuse. My terminally ill mother was taking it, and her doctor warned me to be very careful about getting mugged by someone who saw me fill her prescription at the pharmacy.
I did read some stuff on the internet about how it is abused, and some anecdotal stuff from current college age kids about how it is used, but I do not have authoritative info on it.
How do people abuse it? I have heard that some chew it to access all the hycodone at once, but how many they chew at once, I don't know, and I know that lethal overdoses can occur with just a couple of pills. I have also heard that it is snorted (YUK!).
I know that people build up an immunity to it, but still, in the numbers quoted -- which don't include the stuff he got on the black market -- Pig Boy must have been totally blotto for years. His long term abuse explains his sudden deafness, as well as the massive weight loss.
Anyone wish to speculate as to how Pig Boy was misusing this drug, that might also explain the large numbers?
You'll have to excuse me, but people who abuse oxycontin are among my pet peeves. For every accidental overdose and abuse that occurs, pressure is put on the industry to discontinue the drug, and take it out of the hands of people who desperately need it, like my poor mother, who suffered horrific pain in her final illness.
I do know people who have become inadvertantly hooked on narcotic pain killers, because of chronic severe pain. I also know people who have conditions that they use as an excuse to be able to get high on the "good stuff." I know of people who use them only recreationally. I tend to think Pig Boy was one of the second type here.
