Daley is a prick, and anyone who uses descriptors like "Reasonable, Common Sense" is actually saying that anyone who disagrees is not a reasonable person or has no sense.

Did I mention that Daley is a prick?

So, tell us how you arrived at this lofty opinion of this pillar of the community?

5. One photo provides a very good example
Daley had his goon squads sabotage the runway at Meigs Field airport in the dead of night, while the FAA was still holding hearings on whether or not to allow it to be shut down.

Daley raised money to pay for the FAA fines by raising peoples' property taxes, and blaming it on the federal government.

Daley is a prick.

and OMFG.. watching this now and just had to comment again..

Police chief from MN (I believe): "What citizens needs military caliber guns?"

Fucking duh, cop-o-crat, almost every caliber above 22 started as or is used by a military somewhere, save some REALLY REALLY powerful rounds used for large game. Those are okay, but 9mm isn't?!?

eta2: OMFG AGAIN! He's claiming that NICS destroying records of 'PROCEED' transactions within 24 hours makes guns untraceable. As if the 4473 doesn't have the exact same information that was relayed to the NICS agent.

eta3: the redding mayor saying that the ordinance against discharging weapons for less than life threatening reasons in his city could be impacted by mcdonald is asinine.

6. He just makes me want to scream and puke simultaneously.
He's a lying sack o' crap!

The last thing he wants is an end to violence in minority neighborhoods. It's a whole lot easier to play the sympathetic leader than actually solve the problems.

If he actually put the cops on the street (CPD now down by 1000 officers and still no contract after 3 years) the minority neighborhoods that are the victims of the violence might actually become a serious voting bloc and Daley and his crooks would be out and a new Hispanic or Black Mayor would take over. His lily white contractor and real estate buddies don't want to lose that Golden Goose.

8. From the description of the video...
"Mayor Richard M. Daley joined victims, law enforcement officials, mayors, prosecutors and leaders of many groups representing people from across the nation today who support the belief that reasonable, local gun laws are a responsible way to protect city streets, communities, families and children from gun violence."

Thats nice, but when is he or they going to propose something which really IS reasonable?

9. UNBELIEVABLE. 5:38 into the video, Daley says...
"In on going efforts, we will never sway away from our commitment to support the second amendment to the united states constitution, while at the same time making our case that cities and states should be able to decide for themselves how best to protect our communities (ignore that which we claim to support)"

Mine in parentheses.

Not only is he a liar and double talking moron, but he doesn't even know that the second amendment is in the BILL OF RIGHTS, NOT the constitution.

13. To be fair...
The Bill of Rights are amendment to the Constitution, and therefore part of it.

But that's the only credit I'll give that nasty thug.

14. Shaky ground.
They are separate documents with separate purposes.

Related, but separate.

The constitution has 4 pages.

The bill of rights is not page 5.

16. I'd consider it, structurally, almost as an appendix or addendum...
and therefore while modifying the original, is still subservient to it, and a part of it.

i.e., it has much less strength as a stand-alone statement, it must be read in relationship to the core document.

I dunno, I'm not really a Constitutional scholar, let alone any kind of scholar, but it is an interesting proposal.

11. And from my home state...Scott Knight, chief of police of Chaska MN...
"My officers have seen over and over again that guns tend not to diffuse situations, instead, they escalate situations."

I bet they're really upset at having to carry guns, and in being in such danger of "escalating" situations. :sarcasm:

But it doesn't end there folks, at 18:27 we have this gem:

"What private citizen needs a military caliber "assault weapon", what private citizen needs "armor piercing ammunition, or bullets". Personally, I think that local governments should be free to judge for themselves what makes sense in their jurisdiction".

But he doesn't think any PERSON should be free to judge for themselves what gun makes sense for them to own.

And more more alarmingly, this guy is a chief of police who has just demonstrated in front of the entire world that he is iether dishonest or ignorant of the law that he and the officers under him are charged with upholding, with his comments about "armor piercing ammunition, or bullets".

As another gungeon poster once said:

"It's deeply saddening that someone would consider his/her opinions about an important public policy issue to be worth spewing in public when s/he is so totally ignorant of the subject matter, and so deeply uninterested in learning the minimum necessary to have an opinion of even minimal value."

And maybe to enforce the law, too.

12. And the guy representing the APA...
"The federal government for a number of very sound reasons, that neither loaded guns nor explosives of any kind have a place on an airplane".

Thats not true. One can bring a loaded gun on ones own aitplane, and armed air marshals and other law enforcement agents can carry on commecial airliners.

And the rest is along the lines of "But incorporating the second amendment against the states will make our job harder"..."we will be tieing the hands of police officers who are at the front lines (are they at war? Oh, I forgot how militarized they are now days, nevermind) trying to protect our communities"

I wonder if he feels that the fourth and fifth amendments make their job harder too...

"We should also expect the decision to apply the second amendment to the states and municipalities in mcdonald will clog our courts with with second amendment challenges brought by defendants claiming a constitutional right to carry that gun".

In what, 12 or 13 states? So pass "shall issue CCW" in the rest, and head the problem off at the pass, rather than contrarily taking the "fenty route".

"Incorporation would threaten to embroil a wide range of firearm prosecutions and litigations similar to what we have under the fourth amendment exclusionary rule. Indeed it would also complicate fourth amendment issues by themselves, by threatening to redefine what is probable cause, what is reasonable suspicion, especially in firearm prosecutions. This means a lot more time for already overburdened judicial systems, and more taxpayers money for both the prosecution as well as the defense to litigate these challenges".

Remember when I pondered "I wonder if he feels that the fourth and fifth amendments make their job harder too"...

I guess we get our answer don't we.

15. i thought his line of reasoning was also illogical
it was along the line of, "it's too much to deal with so lets just throw it under the rug and pretend this hard question doesn't exist". If one of our biggest problems than i would be in full support of increased funding for our courts. Courts are a Caldren in which everything else i boiled away until you are left with only the facts. Isn't that the best forum to deal with such issues as the one we are dealing with?

I wish i was there because i would rip this guys logic apart. You know what, next time my prof. gives me an extra assignment i'm going to use this excuse; lets see how it goes....

17. Wow!...
That's just fucking jaw dropping :wow:

I had to listen to that portion 3 times just to be certain I heard it correctly... 'if incorporation happens, now we'll have to make up some other bogus reason to stop and frisk people' (as if Daleys Jack Booted Thugs ever needed a reason or probable cause to start with).

That whole line of 'reasoning' is bull shit anyways. CCW is still verboten in IL so Shitcagos 'finest' would still have PC to search anyone suspected of illegally carrying a firearm.

19. Fuck that tin pot dictator!
From that discussion, it's predictable that King Richard and his mindless minions will place every roadblock and inconvenience they can
towards legal firearms ownership (think Fenty/DC after Heller... only 10 times worse).

I hope Guara and the SCOTUS state in no uncertain terms that there'll be none of the crap DC pulled.

If not... I hope the city goes bankrupt fighting the resulting lawsuits and challenges.

Yeah, I saw that implied as well.

I expect that Daley will have a lawyer standing by ready to file an injunction with some political hack judge in chicago, to interfere as much as possible while they draw up new rules fenty/dc style.

Dunno if it will succeed, but I fully expect them to try.

And he'll pass any and all expenses related to it, on to the tax payer, just as with the FAA fines.

And blame someone other than himself and his unconstitutional policies for it, of course.

Its predictable, almost to the point of being scripted.

In any case, the anti-gun movements effects on the law abiding citizen needs to die the death of a thousand cuts, and the sooner the bleeding begins, the better.

I'd much prefer if the SC would grab this by the neck, twist off the head and piss on the corpse.

It would be really nice if they'd lay out some strict scrutiny rules that say what is and isn't permissable, and save everyone a lot of time and money in the long run. And very possibly preserve the lives, freedom and time of a lot of well-intentioned citizens who will have to fight the remaining battles.

Alas, I'm pretty sure they won't...

21. Mayor Daley impresses me as the type of individual ...
who given half a chance would love to become a tyrant ruling the U.S. Like dictators throughout history, he would love to see the people he rules disarmed.

Hopefully, SCOTUS will rule in favor of a honest citizen to own firearms in Daley's little kingdom.

24. In Illinois mayors and aldermen can carry firearms??? ...
Under a state law dating back to 1872, mayors and aldermen are designated peace officers. And, conveniently, peace officers are permitted to not only own but carry handguns.

That makes aldermen a special class in Illinois, one of only two states with an almost complete ban on the carrying of concealed handguns. In most places, an adult with no criminal record or history of psychiatric commitment can get a concealed-carry license after taking a training class.

But here, we have a unique system. You want to be able to pack a weapon in public for your safety? Fine. All you have to do is 1) run for the city council and 2) win.

Why the state assumes that aldermen are fit for this prerogative is a mystery. "Law-abiding" is not the very first word that comes to mind when you think of the city council. Since 1972, 27 of its members have been convicted on charges involving malfeasance, misfeasance, nonfeasance, disfeasance, and anti-feasance with mopery aforethought.

It would be hard to come up with a group of people that has proven itself less deserving of blanket trust. The most recent convict, Arenda Troutman, got four years in prison for bribery after being caught on tape attesting that "most aldermen, most politicians are ho's." At a 1991 neighborhood meeting that got rowdy, Ald. Dorothy Tillman reportedly pulled out her handgun and waved it pugnaciously.

In Chicago, only criminals and aldermen are armed. Forgive me for being redundant.

25. There was a lot of fail in those speakers.

Like the speakers, I am very concerned about criminal gun violence (deaths, injuries, and intimidation), but what they all seem to fail is that you can't ride rough shod over law abiding folks' rights.

Tuesday is a big day for me. President Obama is coming to town to speak in my town.and McDonald v Chicago is heard by SCOTUS.
