Home invasion: Suspect caught, dead youth ID'd

Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a home invasion and the coroner has identiifed the 15-year-old who was killed while invading the home.

At about 10 p.m. today, Shreveport police arrested Jeremy Rachal, 18, of the 6200 block of South Crest Drive in Shreveport, on a charge of home invasion, according to Sgt. Bill Goodin, police spokesman.

Dr. Todd Thoma identified the 15-year-old as Gregory N. Graham.

Graham apparently participated in the home invasion at Billy Mayweather’s house in the 6000 block of Fox Chase Trail.

When the 62-year-old’s son, Brandon Mayweather, 31, came by the house shortly after 11 p.m. to check on him, Graham opened fire on Brandon Mayweather, according to police.

But Brandon Mayweather was also armed and returned fire, shooting the 15-year-old twice in the torso and once in an arm. Graham was pronounced dead at LSU Hospital in Shreveport.

2. We had an incident yesterday in Texas

A guy was seen firing a gun from a car and chased to a walmart. He was spotted coming out of the Walmart with a rifle and a pistol by an off duty cop. The man confronted the suspect who started firing. The suspect was killed. HAd that off duty officer not seen this, we might very well be reading about another masacre.

3. People who know me (and know I carry) sometimes ask why I carry in inoccuous places.

Walking the dog, to my parents house, to the grocery store, out to eat... everyday places.
"What could possibly happen at such and such place?", they ask.

Well if I knew shit was going to happen I'd avoid going any such place altogether, now wouldn't I? :shrug:

I'm pretty sure people don't anticipate gunfights merely visiting the old man every now and again.
I know I'll statisticly almost never need mine, but it's nice to know I have that option if a situation arises.

it was against the law for this 15 year old to be in possession of a handgun and I'm going to further speculate he didn't acquire it legally, undergoing an NICS background check in the process.

7. The point I make when asked that question...

is this.

I do not carry a handgun because I need one. I carry a handgun in "case" I need one. If I "knew when" I would need it I would not carry it those times I would not need it. At this point I do not know when, if ever, I will need it so I carry it always just in case I do.

If I knew, that at 9 p.m., at location Y I'd need the gun, I'd make sure I was at location B, but, you never, ever know when you'll need it.

11. I carry a full kit in the back of my car

Blankets, water, medical kit and other things.

I've never needed it and I don't know if I ever will.

In the mean time I waste gas hauling that stuff around everywhere.

But I keep it there in case I need it to save my life or the life of someone else.

Bingo.

Seatbelts will likely only save your life once. The trick part is knowing when that "once" is. Since I can't predict the future I always buckle up. If I never need my seatbelt I am not going to feel "ripped off" for wearing them a whole lifetime.
