A man suspected of shooting 3 people early this morning in Clearwater was shot and killed by a Pinellas County deputy this afternoon. The 2nd shooting happened at 665 Poincietta Avenue in Clearwater Beach around 4:30 p.m.
Undercover deputies tracked the suspect, 19-year-old Alexander Blaine Epstein to that home, that belongs to a friend. According to the Pinellas Sheriff's Office, they encountered Epstein, and instructed him to stop and put his hands about his head.
Instead deputies say he grabbed a weapon and the deputy fired a shot that only injured the suspect. He then turned around and started to walk around the back of the house, where he encountered another undercover deputy. That deputy told him to drop the gun, but he refused, according to the Sheriff's Office. The deputy then fired the fatal shot.
...Investigators believe he is responsible for a shooting Saturday morning that killed 2 men and left another clinging to life.
That shooting happened sometime after 2:00 a.m. Deputies say Epstein and another man showed up at a home at 2201 Curtis Drive where a party was taking place. Detectives say they were looking for someone who was not at the home. They say Epstein got into a fight with someone else at the party and then started firing shots.
Three men were hit. 20 year-old Benjamin Kubes and 22 year-old Ibrahim Kamara, both of Clearwater, died at the scene. 20 year-old Dennis Miyawa of Largo was transported to Bayfront Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
Neighbor Cindy Adams thought highly of them. "They're nice neighbors you couldn't ask for nicer neighbors, polite boys. she said.
Detectives say it appears none of them were Epstein's intended targets. As to what starting Saturday's tragic events, they said it started as a fight over a girl.More:
