Gun sales slow down as laws remain intact
Despite a large crowd throughout the day, dealers said business was slow at the Texas Gun & Knife Show, held at Abilene Civic Center.

After Barack Obama was elected president in 2008, a rush of buyers fearing his tighter views on gun ownership boosted gun and ammunition sales.

“For a while, our current president has been our best salesman,” said Gary Farley, owner of Farley’s Firearms in Goldthwaite.

But recently, many dealers report a decline in prices and interest.

Riggins said people saw Obama not going after gun laws after all and the rush went away.

10. Violent crime in Dallas down 6.3% from last year so far for the same period
Which continues at least two years of violent crime rates dropping in Dallas, despite the fact that Texas has no FOID cards, no ban on semi-automatics, and a plethora of gun shows - not to mention concealed-carry.

7. Huh?
You should use hyphens or something. Gets confusing.

Oh and yeah, all the gun sales and ammo sales were driven solely on racism. Kinda handy having a black president huh? When ever someone speaks out, disagrees, reports on, campaigns against, buys a gun, etc... We can easily label them "white racists anti black president types".

I have not agreed with Obama 100% since he took office. I also disagree 100% with him on his stance on firearms. I guess that would make me a white racists anti black president type?

8. Do you honestly think sales of the most popular civilian guns in the United States
Edited on Tue Aug-03-10 08:10 AM by benEzra
are driven by a tiny, mostly poor, racist fringe? Seriously?

No, the surge in gun sales in 2008-2009 was driven by concern among mainstream gun buyers that the administration would do what the Third Way'ers and the repubs at the Brady Campaign said it would do, namely ban the most popular civilian rifles and pistols in their current configurations under the "assault weapon" mantra, leading to a great deal of hedging. Thankfully, Obama is smarter than that and kicked the new-bans BS to the curb, which has returned the market to normal levels.

I also notice that all those sales of "assault weapons" and "high capacity ammunition feeding devices" in the last decade have coincided with a decrease in both rifle homicide and overall homicide, which pretty much debunks the Chicken Little rhetoric about rifles with protruding handgrips.

5. Ammo sales are still high, as are the sales of pocket pistols ...

Farley said he still sells a lot of ammunition but one other trend he’s seeing is an increase in pocket pistol sales.

More people looking to get a concealed handgun license have led to the increase in the small pistols, he said.

Janice Hill, promoter of the show, agreed that more people are getting their license to carry.

“I’ve seen an influx of women,” Hill said.

9. Well, it might also be
Overinflated prices at gun shows as well. And the ever increasing influx of beanie babies, airsoft crap and beef jerky. And tons of folks who bought stuff during the panic with the idea of having it as "post-pre-post ban". Lowers were going for 300 bucks and more-for stripped AR lowers.

On the plus side, come Christmas and tax time, there should be some smoking deals from folks trying to convert guns they've never fired to money for whatever the hot toy is this year.

11. Saw that CDNN is selling S&W M&P15s for $599 after rebate.

plus shipping and FFL transfer, but still.

Ammo prices are stable or following slightly and ammo is on the shelves.

All good signs.
