Long Gun Registration – Last Chance to Kill a Bad Bill Before its the Law (California)

California --(Ammoland.com)- Legislation is pending on the California Senate Floor that would expand the current handgun registration law to long guns by requiring the CA Attorney General to permanently maintain a registry of ALL firearms purchasers.

Under the provisions of AB 1810 (Feuer), those who purchase or transfer a shotgun or rifle will be required to register that firearm by submitting their name, address, place of birth, phone number and occupation to the California Department of Justice.

COHA believes that AB 1810 is an extreme invasion of personal privacy masked as an important crime fighting tool. At this point, it is unclear whether or not California’s existing handgun registration law is helping to fight crime in any meaningful way.

Therefore, it is unnecessary to greatly expand the handgun registration law to include all firearms – particularly given that traditional sporting arms make up less than 10% of all firearms related homicides in California each year.

I must be wrong. I've been reassured many times here that I'm just being paranoid and registration is not a gun control scheme with a hidden agenda.

I'm sure this will work out just fine and criminals will start pouring into the prisons using the rifle registration information.

10. Handgun Control, Inc., the Dept. of Justice, and the courts played parts in that fiasco.

The biggest problem I have with registration is that it doesn't actually do anything to improve public safety. The ROI is zero as far as I can tell. Cost notwithstanding, I can't see anyone making a convincing case for registration being a good idea.

Gunning for the cash

Just as they did with the census debate two weeks ago, the Opposition and their allies are whipping themselves into a righteous froth over preserving the long-gun registry.

It doesn't seem to be working any more than their census fight did. And that's despite the "big guns" being rolled out this week -- the Association of Chiefs of Police, who would have you believe they speak directly with God.

Public opinion is running strongly against the long-gun registry anyway, according to an Angus Reid poll released this week. It shows 72 per cent of Canadians think it is a huge waste of money that does nothing to prevent crime. emphasis added

Like most things that purport to be about principle, the gun registry is mostly about the money. It's just another petty racket being run against taxpayers, this time by police administrators.

No gun confiscation, just collect an annual fees for your civil rights.
