It represents a basic lack of human compassion, and a scary addiction to hunks of metal.

But then again, those promulgating moral panics tend to be factose intolerant, like to claim the moral high ground, and tend to

get hostile towards those critically examining their pronouncements.

Mainly on the basis that the Ritual Satanic Abuse turned out to be a complete fabrication from start to finish, whereas marijuana and magazines with a capacity over ten rounds do actually exist, even if they're nowhere near as harmful as some insist on making them out to be.
