Shot 8-Year-Old Released From The Hospital

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Doctors said it's a miracle that Alejandro Gutierrez, 8, is still alive, and he is doing much better than expected. He said he remembers everything about the ordeal, and being taken to the emergency room was the scariest part.

The fourth-grade student has been through multiple surgeries after getting shot in the stomach at a home near Coors and Gun Club in late December. The bullet from a .45-caliber weapon went through his body and came within inches of his spine. Doctors said he will make a full recovery.

"We're lucky that he's still standing on his own," his father, Sergio Gutierrez, said. The boy's uncle, Adan Bencomo, 17, accidentally shot him in the stomach during a game of cops and robbers. Police said Bencomo told them Alejandro shot himself to avoid getting in trouble.

The uncle (Bencomo) shot him (Alejandro), but told the police that Alejandro had shot himself. Bencomo told this lie to try to keep himself out of trouble. And he is FAIL.

okay, you're an idiot and decide to play cop and robber with your young nephew with a real gun. Ok, you a dangerous idiot. The fact you do this with a loaded gun makes you that much dumber and that much more dangerous. Then there is the fact that you do it with a round in the chamber and the safety off. I mean jesus fucking christ.

This guy should be locked in a mental home because if you are that stupid you are a danger to public safety, as we just saw.

The fact this happened where I live just makes it that much worse. Suprisingly I don't recall this being on the local news when it happened and I watch the local news each morning, could be that I missed it.

and probably never had any real gun safety training in his life.

Rail as people will against the NRA, they are the premeir trainers for gun safety and shooting skills. Basic safety training classes should be manditory in schools, and could have several levels for various age groups.
