Castle Doctrine Reintroduced in Nebraska!
Friday, January 14, 2011

Earlier this week, State Senator Mark Christensen (44) once again introduced a version of “Castle Doctrine” self-defense legislation as LB 298. The NRA was very pleased to see a renewed attempt to get this critical legislation passed after coming up just short last session. We will be working very closely with Senator Christensen to make sure that we get the strongest possible protections for all Nebraska citizens.

LB 298 has not been placed on the schedule at this time, but is expected to be heard by the Judiciary Committee in the near future. In the mean time, please begin contacting the members of the committee and urge them to support your right to self-defense and support LB 298 when it comes up for a vote. Their contact information can be found below.

2. Nobody dies if they obey the law and don't break into someones home
If they do, castle doctrine allows the homeowner to defend himself and his family

What's wrong with that?

5. The biggest threats seem to be cops busting in the wrong door
in bungled drug raids. Shoot one of them, and your new castle is gonna have guard towers and razor wire.

7. Civil suits are on the rise against wrong-address no-knocks.
The debacle with the Detroit PD in the botched no-knock that resulted in a dead 7yr old comes to mind.

8. Like the incident in Miami(?)
Where the cops bust into the wrong house, in a high crime neighborhood, at 2 a.m. or so, leading a man, who was sound asleep, to go for his gun because he had no clue who was busting in his front door.

The cops justified their shooting by saying the man went for a gun. Well, DUH!!!!!!! Someone busts in my door, I'm going for mine too.

3. I agree, contact OSHA
such a proliferation of firearms in the work places of rapists, robbers and murderers is completely unacceptable!:sarcasm:

9. That's right. A rapist has every right to tell his victim to give it up
With no threat to his personal safety.

12. You can, I am sure, demonstrate a direct correlation....
between these laws and higher rates of gun crimes in places that already practice this, amiright?

Note that I said "gun crimes", not "gun deaths". I'm sure you figure out why.

10. Among other things
these types of laws limit or completely eliminate liability from the home owner for lawfully protecting herself with deadly force. Without these laws there is no assurance, in fact high likelihood, if a felon breaks into a home and is shot or otherwise injured by the resident, the criminal or the criminal's family can file a liability suit against the innocent occupant. The suit may or may not be successful, it costs the innocent party both time and considerable legal expenses to defend themselves. These are good laws...they may even be a greater crime deterrent than possible prison.

13. Castle doctrine or not
If somebody breaks in, makes it past my alarm and dog, menaces my family and puts us in fear for our lives, I'm going to shoot them. Period

There's an old saying, "I'd rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6"
