Non gun defence of home in Fairbanks AK.

FAIRBANKS — A Fairbanks woman nearly severed a man’s hand with a sword early Saturday morning as he was trying to break into her bedroom, according to Fairbanks police.
Police received a 911 call about 3:30 a.m. Saturday regarding a burglary in progress at a home in the Monroe Subdivison near Minnie Street. When officers got to the home, they found a trail of blood leading through house's kitchen and into its living room.
“We located a subject sitting on an exercise bike with his left hand barely hanging on and bleeding steadily from his injury,” Police Sgt. Kurt Lockwood said.

No firearm used. Several people here should be glad of it.

6. "Prohibited weapons"
A large and vague category , universally applied as leverage in plea bargaining , and largely ignored by self defense advocates. But not forgotten .

After you loose your pistol , all you are left with is garden tools .

7. I wonder how he was "put into restraints" - seems like it would hard to handcuff
someone with a minimally attached hand. Cuff his elbows or ankles, perhaps? Doesn't sound like a situation that would be covered in training...
