1. It looks like a 12.7 or 14.5 mm heavy machine gun round

3. .50 Cal.
Judging by the shoulder I'd say 12.7x108 which is the Russian version of .50 BMG. Very similar in looks and performance. It's not a cannon (14.5, 15, or 20mm) type round as the neck it too short to support those rounds.

4. It feels like I'm in high school.
Shuffled off into a corner until one of the cool kids needs something from you.

"Hey, how we gonna get to the party?"

"Let's ask that ugly quiet dude with the dreads. He has a car!"

"But then he has to come to the party!"

"We'll just ignore him until we want to go home."

"Cool, have Janet ask him. He likes her."

"What if he tries to talk to us?"

"We'll just beat him up on Monday to remind him of his place."

To answer your question, my best guess would be the 14.5mm.

I'm gonna keep my eye on you, Glassunion - I'm pretty sure you had me cracking up in a post the other day too...

(and nobody has ever mistaken ME for one of the cool kids before - I'd give ya a heart for that if I could!)

8. Here you go
Edited on Tue Feb-22-11 05:07 PM by one-eyed fat man

For reference:

12.7x99 is the US .50 like fired in the M2 Browning machinegun

12.7x108 is the Soviet cartridge for the Soviet DShK machinegun

The 14.5x114 mm is a heavy machine gun cartridge for the Soviet Kpv

Based on the sharp shoulder and the lack of taper, the fired case he is holding looks more like the 14.5x114 than any of the others. Libya has long been a user of Soviet small arms. They are known to have many of the quad AA mounts. One of those fired into a crowd would be pretty evil, with a combined rate of fire of 2400 rounds per minute.
