Arizona Gun Wild: New Bill Establishes State Army for Gov. Brewer?
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jeff-biggers/arizona-gun-wild-new-bill_b_830800.html

It's one thing to dedicate legislative time over selecting an official state firearm -- only two months since the horrific Tucson shooting.

It's another matter to blacklist and ban (and allegedly rough up) Latino activists from participating in Capitol hearings on immigration bills.

But on the heels of introducing a bill that grants a state committee the right to nullify "existing federal statutes, mandates and executive orders" -- what Arizona Republic columnist E.J. Montini refers to as the right "to secede without officially doing so" -- the Arizona state legislature is now considering SB 1495, which would give Gov. Jan Brewer the right to establish "an armed force for the safety and protection of the lives and property of the citizens of the state which shall be known as the Arizona state guard."

Here's the coda: If a "major portion" of the National Guard is away on service, this bill gives Gov. Brewer the right to call up this new state army "for any other reason the governor considers to be necessary."

They're looking at forming a state militia, that org you keep saying all us gun owners should belong to.

17. We have had the Texas State Guard for 72 years.
Under Democrat and Republican governors. Never heard of it being mis-used. The State Guard supplements the National Guard in state emergencies like hurricanes and serve the citizens of Texas. I believe they are providing traffic control for the Fulton OysterFest this weekend.

18. They didn't think through their arguments for a "well regulated militia".
And now that it looks like one might actually appear- all of a sudden they oppose the idea.

Caught on their own hypocrisy- I love it!

20. This has nothing to do with a well regulated militia - it is establishment of a GOP political army
to intimidate and kill political opponents - Dems, liberals, union activists etc.

32. If you really believed that
"...to intimidate and kill political opponents - Dems, liberals, union activists etc."

Why would you be wanting so fervently to disarm Democrats? You are here screaming daily, telling Democrats they have no right to guns, why is that? Why do you constantly insist Democrats disarm if you truly believe Republicans are arming themselves for the reasons you claim?

19. yes because the citizens they are attempting to deny full constitutional rights to will suffer
if they no longer have the protections of the US Constitution.

letting the state go is throwing the whole state to the wolves.

31. US laws, the US Constitution and The Bill of Rights would no longer apply in Arizona
people in Arizona now enjoying those rights will not have all of them any longer.

the Civil Rights Act of 1964 would no longer apply.

the Americans With Disabilities Act would no longer apply.

rights guaranteed by the 13th and 14th Amendments would no longer apply.

Arizonans (Americans) should not lose all those rights.

is this that complicated for you?

maybe you should entertain yourself by watching some judge shows.

15. Oh, great.
That's just lovely. Janet wants her own Brownshirts to rough up uppity Labor, Latinos and Liberals. I can just imagine the level of troglodyte that will rush to sign up: the ones who couldn't make it into that effete, weekend warrior Arizona National Guard.
I wonder if Jan remembers what happened when Mecham and Symington both over-reached?
