Responsible gun owners do not allow 11 year old children access to firearms. Responsible gun owners also teach their children firearm safety. The first rule is:
1. ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.
This is the primary rule of gun safety. A safe direction means that the gun is pointed so that even if it were to go off it would not cause injury or damage. The key to this rule is to control where the muzzle or front end of the barrel is pointed at all times. Common sense dictates the safest direction, depending on different circumstances.
http://www.nrahq.org/education/guide.asp Perhaps you are posting this to point out why we should have gun safety classes in high school. If so I agree with you.
Perhaps you are posting this to point out why we need to punish parents who allow their children access to firearms. In that case I also agree. It might be a good idea to require a gun safety class for everybody who wants to buy a firearm.
You seem to enjoy posting incidents where criminals or irresponsible people misuse firearms. The overwhelming majority of firearm owners are responsible. Unfortunately, there will always be a few tragic accidents. We can work to reduce such occurrences.
Hunting accidents were far more common before many states enacted laws that required a hunter safety course before a new hunter could be issued a license.
