Gun in Oven Shoots Woman

A 22-year-old woman was wounded when a handgun that had been hidden inside an oven discharged when she opened the door, police said.

Colsaun Bailey, the 17-year-old alleged owner of the gun, was arrested, though police said they did not believe he fired the weapon, The Journal News reported Wednesday.

"We are operating on the assumption that nobody picked up the gun and fired it," police Capt. John McCoy told the newspaper.

Police said Bailey put two handguns in a bag then placed it inside the oven, which someone later turned on. When the woman opened the oven door to see why smoke was coming from it, one of the guns discharged, striking her, police said.

One bullet hit her in the forearm, hip and thigh, authorities said. Police said her wounds did not appear to be life-threatening.

4. I'm afraid that....
In my house, the oven would be a pretty safe place to hide a gun. :)

12. going off by themselves
The only time that I have ever seen a weapon fire with out a trigger pull is on a Machine gun range. A SAW gunner just fired a series of longs bursts and thought that he finished the belt. A round was left in the reciever and it cooked off.

I think it is a heat thing, oven, heat, machine gun, heat. Never saw one go off just sitting on a desk.

ALL guns do this, especially full autos.

Cook a pistol, eat some lead. How sad.

15. Does anyone else have trouble...
...believing this story? The only round to cook off is the one that is in the chamber? That's convenient. It went off the moment she opened the oven door? That's convenient. The barrel of the gun was pointed out from the oven? That's convenient.
