WASHINGTON, March 1 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Senator Allen today discarded his commitment and announced he'll vote against reauthorizing the assault weapons ban. If the ban expires in September, Uzis and AK-47s will once again be readily available on the streets of Richmond, Hampton and Fairfax.

The landmark 1994 law has reduced the availability of rapid- fire military-style weapons. A report released yesterday shows use of the weapons in connection with crimes has plunged statistically since the ban became effective in 1995.

"Senator Allen has reneged on a firm, unambiguous campaign pledge," said Michael Barnes, President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence united with the Million Mom March. "He has broken his promise to the people of Virginia."

I emailed his office to tell him he needs to let the AWB die and support the end to frivilous lawsuits against the gun industry.

8. My two Repugnant Senators ignored me too.

DeW(h)ine and Voinovich both voted in favor of extending the ban on scary-looking semi-automatic rifles too. So betraying constituents crosses party lines.
