7-year-old boy takes loaded gun to school
http://www.wtsp.com/news/article/195408/81/7-year-old-boy-takes-loaded-gun-to-school

Some scary moments at a Mount Clemens elementary school Friday afternoon as a second grade boy took a loaded gun to school and showed it to anotherstudent.

Macomb County Sheriff Tony Wickersham says a third student told the teacher, who confiscated the handgun.

"A second grader, 7-year-old male student brought a handgun belonging to his mother to the school . This student then gave the gun to another student, who then told a third student," said Wickersham.

Where did a seven-year-old get a loaded gun?

1. Oh no, there was a gun, it's use was totally Innocent, and no one got hurt
This seems like a non-issue considering the mother is probably going to face criminal charges already.

"belonging to his mother"
"Where did a seven-year-old get a loaded gun?"

Just wow.....

of the pro-gun crowd. 7 year old brings a loaded handgun to school, evidently passes it around to classmates, and the only response is that "it was innocent" and "no one got hurt."

Well the reason that no one got hurt is that the weapon was confiscated by a teacher. OMG CONFISCATION!!!

13. Wow, the stupid.....
....it burns!

Yes, clearly the entire "pro-gun crowd" had no problems with small children running around with loaded firearms. That makes TOTAL fucking sense.

Oh wait, no, it doesn't. It's just you trying to demonize those who have differing political views. But hey, nice try though.

3. "Its use was totally innocent"? Unbelievable.
A loaded gun being passed among 7 year olds is a potential catastrophe.

6. Are you suggesting that these children had anything other than benevolent intentions?
I don't think anyone supports giving a loaded gun to a 7 year old. I'm pointing out that these children were hardly acting with criminal intent. I'm also pointing out that the mother is already likely to face criminal charges for allowing her child access to take the gun.

9. No. I'm saying that you're wrong to say "this is a non-issue."
The issue is that too many gun owners don't secure their guns, and tragedies happen as a result. It doesn't matter how innocent a 2 year old's or a 4 year old's or a 7 year old's INTENTIONS are: they should be able to get hold of a gun, loaded or not loaded.

11. I tend to agree.
There's just no excuse for a gun owner letting one of their firearms fall into the hands of a young child without any adult supervision.

While I think it is awesome that the accidental discharge rate continues to decline, I think we can still do more to reduce it further, and part of that is encouraging parents to take appropriate steps to insure their children do not end up in situations such as this.

My wife and I don't have children yet, so I keep a shotgun in our bedroom for home defense. However, whenever children are coming to visit the shotgun gets unloaded and locked away.
