Madison County teen dies in apparent gun accident; roommate charged. (Bonus: Gun Owner Photo)
Gun owner:

A Madison County man was messing with a handgun at his home overnight and his teenage friend ended up dead, authorities said.

Brandon Landis, 17, was shot in the head and died outside 25 4th St. in the village of Plumwood, Madison County Sheriff Jim Sabin said.

Deputies arrested Landis's friend and roommate, 22-year-old Mack D. Thomas. He has been charged with reckless homicide, a third-degree felony, and is being held at the Tri-County Jail in Mechanicsburg.

Sabin said a woman who also lived at the house called 911 just before 2 a.m. Deputies arrived to find Landis dead and Thomas on the run.

2. Tragic and sad. There's not much really to say about this local-interest story except
to express sympathy for the victim(s) and his family, but to tie it tangentially to the mission of the forum I'll suggest that this is further evidence in support of basic firearms safety being taught in school. Demystifying firearms - even for those who don't choose to own them - could help more people understand that guns are simply tools, not toys - and how they should(n't) be handled, and how to react when they're handled irresponsibly...

3. Something does not feel right
messing with a .25 and it goes off. Thomas takes off while a lady calls 911. Dropped? The chance of hitting someone in the head is slim at any angle. Was he stupid to think he could dry fire it with out checking, found out that it was loaded then panicked? Drunken stupidity? Maybe. I'm not calling this one an accident.

6. Where in the story does it say that he was the owner of the gun?
I'm just asking.
