Cops: Man fires gun to get rid of magazine salesmen

A Fox River Grove man ended a solicitation by two door-to-door magazine salesmen by firing his gun, authorities said.

During the Tuesday evening solicitation, homeowner Mark Molenaar, 50, of the 100 block of South Road, produced a Smith & Wesson revolver and discharged one round into the ground, said McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren.

The two solicitors fled, but contacted police.
