Wisconsin lawmakers to debate concealed carry bill
The Wisconsin state Senate plans to debate a bill Tuesday that will legalize the carrying of concealed weapons.

Wisconsin and Illinois are the only states that currently do not allow for carrying concealed weapons.

12. Opposition to concealed carry has often cost our party dearly ...
Our party has for years managed to shoot itself in the foot supporting the extreme gun control schemes manufactured by organizations such as the Brady Campaign.

The Assault Weapons Ban is one example of a totally foolish law that accomplished little or nothing but did allow the Republicans to gain the support of many voters who agree with the Democratic Party on many important issues.

The Assault Weapons ban DID NOT ban the semi-auto rifles that looked like fully automatic military assault rifles it targeted. Let's look at what it did ban:

Semi-automatic rifles able to accept detachable magazines and two or more of the following:

Folding or telescoping stock
Pistol grip
Bayonet mount
Flash suppressor, or threaded barrel designed to accommodate one
Grenade launcher (more precisely, a muzzle device which enables the launching or firing of rifle grenades)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Assault_Weapons_Ban

Just how important is a bayonet mount, a flash suppressor or a grenade launcher on a rifle?

Recently the news media has stated that during the time the Assault Weapons Ban was in effect, the sale of magazines (clips to those who love to use incorrect terminology) that held more than 10 rounds was banned. What was banned was the sale of magazines that held more than 10 rounds manufactured after a certain date. The hi-cap magazines were always available, they just merely cost more.

All the publicity about these semi-auto rifles caused them to gain great popularity. Prior to the ban, few shooters had any interest in such firearms and they were ridiculed as "Matell Shooting Guns" or cheap plastic guns. After the ban, shooters began to realize how accurate and versatile these weapons are and rushed out to buy one and of course a high capacity magazine to go with it.

Limited magazine size to 10 rounds also backfired in a different way. Manufacturers started to make very compact pistols that held 10 rounds or less. Such small and very light weapons led to far more people getting a concealed carry permit and carrying these weapons in public.

But possibly the worst result was that the Republicans were able to get the votes of gun owners who had a significant amount of money and time invested in their hobby and feared future bans or even confiscation.

Our party needs to back away from restrictive gun control targeting honest citizens and instead focus future efforts on disarming dishonest criminals who misuse firearms to rob, rape and pillage.

14. IIRC Doyle vetoed it twice
Then when the veto override votes came around he got one legislator to change his vote. Then, in a remarkable coincidence, the guy who changed his vote got a plush State job.

Doyle can sit next to Ann Richards as another Dem that got suckered by the gun control people and paid the political price.

6 Dems voted for this bill too.

Maybe you should move to Cheddarville and start a recall for their seats too?

Thanks to advice like yours Richards lost to Bush. Any more political advice from people like you and we won't have a country anymore.

19. you realize that these laws were often pushed through by
GOP/management so their thugs could safely lynch union organizers do you? You post a lot of stuff and make little way of comment. I'm curious to know if you really have these veiws or if you do, why you don't expand or explain why. Others do.

BTW, are you and shares having any luck getting my Tavor from Canada?

20. Let me check the numbers ...
People that have followed your advice so far:

San Francisco handgun ban - lost in court - paid the NRA $360,000 in legal fees

Washington DC handgun ban - lost in court - paid Gura and the NRA $3.2 million for legal fees

Chicago Illinois handgun ban - lost in court - paid NRA and Gura -(estimates) $2.7 million in legal fees (and still counting because they filed another suit)

Keep up the good work. You probably helped Wayne buy a new pair of $600 shoes all by yourself. But maybe you could list some of the big court victories for the Brady group and their financial awards here as a counterpoint? And both your so called home states, Maine and Florida, still have (very loose) concealed carry laws with no repeal in sight. What are you doing about that besides whining online? For that matter no state is showing any signs of a repeal of their CCW laws.

Yeah, you give great advice on who to stand up to. It would be a lot cheaper for everyone if you just shut up about it and offered to kiss the NRA's ass at high noon on the steps of the Madison Courthouse in February.

Everybody should obviously listen to you with your track record.

6. Who cares about this?
We have a lot more serious problems in WI to worry about than concealed carry.
