The major problem with "Private Gun Background Checks"...Stolen Guns!

A minimum of 200,000 guns are stolen every year. The high end estimate is 500,000. Most are never recovered.

So lets face it. Gun registration will not work. Because these 200,000 will never be registered. Or they will be registered and then reported stolen. Background checks for private sales will not work as these 200,000 will bypass that system.

So once again, only honest people will be going through the background check. Not criminals. The criminals will buy one of the 200,000 stolen guns. Or just steal them on their own. And since only about 10,000 guns are used per year to kill someone, that means there are 190,000 stolen guns not used to kill someone. This means there will always be a ample supply of stolen guns for criminals to obtain. 20 times more than are needed for every murder in the country.

The Brady act has stopped 854,000 guns from being sold since 1998. There have been at least 131 Million guns sold since 1998. That is a denial rate of < 1%. So once again, honest citizens have to get background checked for the last 13 years but Criminals had no issue obtaining guns in the last 13 years. Explain that!

So even if every gun was registered so we can implement some make believe "private sale" background check, the 200,000 stolen guns per year will bypass this registration process and continue to go to criminals. So all we will be doing making honest citizens go through red tape to sell a gun to another honest citizen. This will do nothing to stop criminals from having guns.

And remember, guns are legal to own and manufacture, cocaine is not. Yet buying cocaine does not seem to be a issue in this country. Once the anti-gun people solve the cocaine supply issue, then they can use that same process to stop stolen guns I assume.

If any of the "background check for private sales" fans have a real list of implementable tasks that will make this possible please let me know. And include stolen guns in your plan.
