Man brought gun to kid's party because his children didn't get any cake.
Memphis police said they arrested a man accused of bringing a gun to a child's birthday party because his children didn't get any cake.

Investigators said Joseph Hayes, 48, shouted at the woman Saturday when his children didn't get any cake or ice cream before going home and returning to the party with what was described as a black handgun, the (Memphis) Commercial Appeal reported Monday.

Police said Hayes lifted his shirt to display the weapon to the woman.

"I ain't scared to go to jail, just take care of my kids," Hayes allegedly told the woman.

So basically he might as well be some thug or criminal that the less informed will conflate with law abiding CCW holders.

regulation. It is a canard. There is no gun show exemption in any federal or state gun control law. Regardless of what some right wing terrorist said on a video, parrotted by poorly written and unresearched scribblings by some guy at Crooks and Liars, which is little more than a left leaning Free Republic, you can not buy a machine gun at a gun show. All sales from FFL holders must have a background check. If the state requires it, private sales also have to have background checks.
Both Thom Hartmann and Rachel Maddow know better, but put ideological purity above intellectual honesty, which disappointed me greatly because I like both of these people.

45. Are you serious?
Oh yes, a bunch of right wing hack websites about gun control talking about the non-existant loophole is 100% POSITIVE evidence that the loophole exists. I mean really, THIS is your idea of evidence?

Ironically, clicking on your link actually returns this result, along with the rest of the garbage out there:

http://www.nraila.org/media/misc/fables.html

That is not the only page talking about the myth, but given that it was from the NRA, I thought you would like it the most. ;)

52. Oh yes, major news media has really been so on the ball on this issue...
...that they are to be trusted without question, right? And note I didn't say every single response to the search query was a right wing website, only that there were a bunch of them (such as the VPC, Brady Campaign, and MAIG).

And that still doesn't change the fact that your google search does NOT in fact address the issue at hand. But hey, nice attempt at a dodge. :P

30. gun ownership in Somalia is not that large
Mostly in the hands of the war lords. Do you think dictatorial war lords will want armed subjects? no.

A better example for your use would be Yemen before the shit hit the fan, but their homicide rate is still lower than ours.

34. it is the logical extension of where libertarianism leads
to despotic businessmen or warlords that become the de-facto governments. That is the absurdity of libertarianism, they picture a nice peaceful anarchy where everyone competes.
While Thom Hartmann is correct in that it is the only place where it is being attempted, paradise is not the word I would use.

11. Clearly, we need a new law or three
I propose that it should be illegal to host a party for children without providing sufficient cake, ice cream, and punch to satiate every appetite. Also, if the pinata breaks before every child has had a turn, a backup pinata must be provided. Finally, all invitations must be delivered simultaneously, and at least 72 hours before the event, so that no child perceives himself to be an afterthought.

Good thing no one was hurt, and the police did their thing...

22. Maybe:
Maybe if the hostess had been armed and done something wrong, this would, somehow, be relevant to the topic.
Maybe if Hayes actually had a gun, this would, somehow, be relevant to the topic.

As it is, a guy accused of Aggravated Assault is locked up. Someone said he had a gun.
I'm not sure but I think about 8 years ago someone said there were nukes in Iraq, too.

Maybe there was republican who ate all the cake and ice cream. :spank:

...Mr. Hayes was doing a 'Dillinger' as no gun was ever recovered.
Not that he is a model citizen with an arrest record for robbery among other charges.

As dumb as he seems, I have to give the prize to Tyell Morton of Rushville High School.
