Pa. Supreme Court rejects suit over lost/stolen gun law
This law seems reasonable to me actually. I see no issue in reporting stolen or lost weapons. Seems hard to enforce though unless you file a claim or contact the police to report it.

------------

The state Supreme Court refused to hear the National Rifle Association`s appeal of a lower court ruling that it doesn`t have legal standing to challenge Pittsburgh`s lost-or-stolen gun ordinance.

The justices decided on Tuesday to reject the organization`s petition, according to a notice posted today on the court`s website

The ordinance requires gun owners to report lost or stolen guns to police within 24 hours of discovering they are missing. The NRA claims the ordinance violates a state law that prohibits municipalities from regulating firearms.

1. I agree, I don't see this as overly restrictive. Anyone with a brain should report it anyway.
It's the only way you might get your weapons back.

2. Not only that, but if it's gets used in a crime and you HAVEN'T
reported it stolen, guess who's a prime suspect!

3. Good. Love that the NRA wasted its contributors' money on this though.

4. So just as Dick Gura did
in and in MacDonald v. Chicago, the NRA will simply find members who ARE citizens of Pittsburgh to join a re-filed lawsuit in which THEY WILL then have standing.

And in the new suit, the City of Pittsburgh will lose just as Philadelphia has.

5. Law might help stem
straw purchases. Claim the gun was stolen and still face court if not reported. Report it more than once and get investigated.

6. I was assuming that was the primary goal - about the only reason I can think not to
report a 'stolen' gun is if it wasn't really stolen.

Although I suppose there could be some specific situations where this law would do harm - immigrant (perhaps undocumented) communities with a fear of the police, or individuals who fear retaliation for reporting a crime...

9. What if you didn't know the gun was lost/stolen?
Do you think it's fair you have to spend time and money to prove your own innocence?
