House passes looser gun laws (North Carolina)
RALEIGH -- Republican legislators tried to loosen gun laws through several bills this year; some succeeded, some failed. But the centerpiece of weaponry legislation cleared the House on Thursday and is headed to the governor.

The bill would expand the places where people with permits to carry concealed handguns could bring their weapons, making it lawful for permit-holders to take their guns onto state court property and into state parks if they secure them in their vehicles, and allow guns at state highway rest stops.

It would also allow state lawmakers and other legislative employees to bring their guns to the legislative building as long as they keep them locked in their cars. It would permit local governments to prohibit weapons from county recreation facilities.

6. Fewer for you, maybe -- likely, only in your mind. Fewer for society as a whole, probably not.

7. I can't help it if society as a whole chooses to opt out of CC/OC
Lot's of people decide not to be safety oriented that's a fine choice also.

9. Most because 95% of the population regularly leaves home without a gun. It's only small % who can't

Hardly massive shift outside TBaggers and militia types. I don't think citizens engaging in an arms war is going to benefit anyone but those who profit from guns and those who have irrational attitudes toward the need to carry in public.

13. Hoyt, you need to get some pointers from the American Family Association...
....or perhaps the Partnership For a Drug-Free America. They're way better at this sort of thing than you are:

14. Sorry man, I don't spend time at right wing, hate Web sites life AFA. You ought to avoid as well.

Too many gunners are into that junk though. It's one of the main reasons I am concerned about toting in public.

And you both exaggerate the "threat".

16. Better than 50/50, I think. I voted for Perdue, and IIRC she campaigned as pro-gun-owner.
These reforms are long overdue, IMO. We didn't get everything (the no-CHL's-in-nice-restaurants rule still stands, at least until next year) but what did pass is mainstream and I don't see her vetoing it. I could be wrong, but I'm hopeful.
