With the reports of US military weapons sold to the Mexican government being given to/stolen by the cartels, how long before a family fishing at Falcon Lake or visiting Big Bend gets taken out by one? Is there any action afoot by the US Justice Dept to curtail current/future sales of .gov property to Mexico, or is that also being handled by the ATF?

1. As far as I'm aware, military weapons sales aren't affected by the ATF. |
|
They're a domestic law enforcement agency, so they don't have jurisdiction over such transfers. That would be the purview of Defense and of State.
As for what's being done to stop the problem, I'm certain that the Mexican government's "Anybody's fault but ours" attitude is not helping the situation.

3. Sort of like being asked if you want to be shot or hung. |
|
Doesn't much matter if they are shot by US Government property or any other weapon freely bought worldwide by anyone with enough cash. The result is the same.
