Bizarre Twist to Brooklyn man who shot at teens - wounded bystander's mom calls him a hero

The Brooklyn gunman who opened fire on a pack of noisy teens was hailed as a hero Monday by the most unlikely of people - the mother of the woman he inadvertantly wounded.

Larisa Kaprovskaya said Thomas Dunikowski was just trying to protect them from a neighborhood threat when he got his gun.

"He shot because he wants to protect us," said Kaprovskaya, 50. "I don't know what would have happened to us if he didn't try to protect us. I appreciate him."

Yana Kaprovskaya was not badly hurt, her mother said. She said Dunikowski stood up for them after the cops disregarded their pleas for help.

Again not justifying what this guy did but if you read the story it sounds like there were around 30 teens not just hanging out and being noisy but doing vandalism and police were not taking care of problem. Sounds like some neigbors were fed up. And if this guy fired 30 rounds he was either the worst shot in the world or not really aiming at the teens. Again not the way to solve the problem but if authorities don't then they are at least partially to blame. As well as the teens and their parents if they are disturbing and vandalizing the neighborhood.

since the two who were shot were hit by "fragments."

Most of those charges will likely stick, but if a judge tries to give him more than probation and anger management classes, that neighborhood will tear his courtroom apart.

Stuff like this is going to happen more and more on hot nights in big cities as punky teenagers have no hope of earning money at summer jobs.

5. I can't tell what really happened from the story but if I'm forced to shoot at thugs they will be

aimed at center chest but I would not have shot as warnings. I will use deadly force to stop a thug from injuring or killing either someone I care about or an innocent person or myself. If they are vandalizing I'd tape it. I still can't tell what they were really doing from the story.
