Illinois Now the Only State Without a Concealed Carry Law

Today, Illinois stands alone. It's the only state that does not allow its citizens to carry a concealed weapon.

That's because Wednesday, Wisconsin became the 49th state to join the concealed carry club when its state assembly passed a bill allowing its citizens to carry personal weapons.

Illinois' legislature was a few votes short of passing a concealed carry bill last month. It received 65 votes, six short of the 71 needed to pass the bill and override a promised veto from Governor Pat Quinn.

Now, the news from Wisconsin has gun rights supporters even more energized to make Illinois state number 50.

BUT you failed to acknowledge what are the requirements in other states for that. Will it change? Only if the MAJORITY of the people want it to. Or, imagine if their gave a party, and nobody went to it?

4. NYS at least has it, even if you're not a big enough political contributor to get one

... or enough of a celebrity. They never seem to have any trouble getting permits. Hell, even Trump has a permit I read.

In Illinois there are zero options, that is the point of the post.

What are you doing to change the law to "Shall Issue" in NYS?

Get elected to the Chicago Board of Alderman. Like New York, those pigs who feed higher up the trough and are more equal than others have no problem getting a permit.

7. I think you may be confusing NY law with NYC law.

An unrestricted NY PL400 license doesn't seem as impossible to obtain as you imply, though you'd certainly right about carry licenses in NYC (where money and political connections mean far, far more than your record and training do).

We lived in Suffolk County for 27 years. My husband couldn't get it in NYC (lived there 24 years) OR Suffolk. No felonies and a Vet, but again, no valid reason for it.

14. NY is very much county-by-county for issue. Suffolk County is notorious.

The suburban belt surrounding NYC is generally very hostile to handgun permits. Still, your husband should have qualified for the "Sportsman" permit in Suffolk: it's not full-carry, and a valid reason is "target shooting and/or hunting."

and it appears that he was going far, far beyond the legal requirements if he denied your husband a license.

As others have pointed out, that type of arbitrary denial of qualified applicants because they're not wealthy enough, important enough, connected enough, or a good enough storyteller is precisely why non-arbitrary issuance is so important, IMO.

And NYC is its own special case. Money and prestige appear to be the primary "qualifications" for licensure there.

18. I'd love for MA to rationalize its requirements on nonresident licenses while you're at it.

I looked into getting one a month or two ago, and I'm qualified, I'm just not wealthy enough.
