Man follows bicyclist home and pulls gun for 'standing slightly off-center' in line.
A Jacksonville man is charged with aggravated assault after a customer was followed out of the Fort Caroline Road post office and threatened with a gun.

The suspect got into an argument with the 33-year-old man because he was standing slightly off-center of the customer service line Thursday, according to his arrest report.

As the 33-year-old bicycled home, the suspect pulled up in a truck, got out and brandished a handgun. The victim got away without being hurt.

Police located Perry R. Frasier, 51 at the Reed Island Drive address listed on a package he dropped off at the post office.

1. Sometimes you just need to draw a line in the sand, and stand up for what is right
and good. Mr. Frasier is not good at recognizing those times...

Still, the police didn't really play fair - checking the return address on the package he dropped off? That's just devious.

5. *Someone's* got to do it.
Imagine if EVERYBODY stood off center.

We'd have friggin' anarchy.

2. Dumb ass.
Why the hell is standing off-center a major issue? It sure don't take much to tick off some people.

6. The act of breathing in public is enough to tick off some people.
That is particularly true if you do not look like you are a member of the same group as the person you're ticking off.

7. Only the voices in you head tell you things like that
you are told here nearly every day that we expect a small minority of gun owners to do stupid and criminal things every day. Why do you keep forgetting that?

8. No, those afraid of losing their guns tell us bad outcomes can't be used to cut off your pipeline to

guns and ammo. Christ, the measly 3 to 4% that can't walk out of their house without a gun would give up on life itself if they couldn't tuck a gun or two away.

10. Yet you have never been safer in your entire life
and next year you will be even safer. Really chaps your hide, doesn't it, that as gun ownership goes up and gun laws grow laxer, gun crimes and accidents go down. What's a poor authoritarian to do?

12. That's right we are safer, but not because of guns -- yet you guys still keep promoting carrying.

Crime rates have decreased from aging population, better surveillance, tougher sentencing, etc.

So, when are you going to join the non-packing 95+% and accept that you can actually leave home without a gun or two and return safely?

21. Agreed. More guns does not mean less crime ...
The unfortunate fact for you is that there is absolutely no evidence that more guns and more people who legally carry firearms result in more crime or more violence.

You have been presented innumerable times in this forum with facts and statistics that show that honest, sane people who have passed all the requirements to obtain a license to carry a firearm do not present any significant risk to the public. While there are tragic incidents that occur, they are few and far between considering that at least 10 million people have carry permits in our nation.

Rather than concentrate on a non problem, why not work to support improved law enforcement to fight crime and the legalization of some drugs (which would take much of the profit motive out of smuggling and dealing such drugs)? Work to improve education and to provide worthwhile, good paying jobs to the citizens in our nation. Work to improve existing laws such as the NICS background check system. Support law enforcement efforts to combat crime and to stop the straw purchase of firearms in order to provide criminals with weapons by implementing far more severe penalties and lengthy jail sentences for those who buy weapons to sell to criminals in our nation and to smuggle into Mexico.

Such efforts should result in a further drop in the violent crime rate and eventually citizens will decide that the money to buy a firearm for home defense or the time, effort and expense to obtain a carry permit is a poor investment and is in fact unnecessary.

When I grew up in the 50s and 60s only those who enjoyed target shooting, hunting or collecting rare and valuable weapons owned guns. Only a very few people felt the need to own one for self defense. The violent crime rate skyrocketed shortly after we declared the War on Drugs. If anything the War on Drugs made drugs more attractive and tempting. Prohibition and banning items rarely work and often backfires.

The efforts of those who want to ban, register and confiscate firearms or limit their carry only make firearms more attractive. We live in a nation were the right to own firearms is treasured and efforts to dramatically limit firearm ownership are used by the Republicans and conservatives to win close elections at the polls.

More guns will only make it worse.

22. But you admit that more guns do not make you less safe
so what's the big deal?

Why do you care about that 5% when it is clear they represent no threat to you? Don't you have real things to worry about?

Edited on Sun Jul-03-11 06:50 AM by hack89
and about objects, that by your own admission, do not scare you either. So why do you care what those non-threatening people carrying those non-scary objects do? Why aren't you channeling your energy into something that would actually benefit society?

19. my point about DGU's in general
is that the studies the pro-gun folks like to cite rely on self-reporting. Thus, This person could tell a few lies and then report this as a DGU.

20. Oh you mean the studies done by criminologists that do not
get grants from foundations? Or do you mean the Joyce Foundation funded shills that come up with the same numbers while trying to explain why the criminologist's numbers are wrong?

23. As I recall, the the Justice Department (under Janet Reno no less)
attempted to disprove the data from the Kleck/Gertz study and their small sampling returned an estimate of DGUs that was approximately 3.47 million (nearly a million higher than that of the study they were attempting to invalidate).

Even the FBI's NCVS (which only reports related to crimes committed, not attempted) puts the number at a couple of hundred thousand per year. Are those reports lies too?

not good for either Democrats or the country at large.
