PHOENIX - Weapons linked to a questionable government strategy are turning up in crimes in Valley neighborhoods.

For months the ABC15 Investigators have been searching through police reports and official government documents. We’ve discovered assault weapons linked to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ controversial "Fast and Furious" case strategy have turned up at crime scenes in Glendale and Phoenix communities.

sold in Arizona gun stores are being used in crimes in both Mexico and the U.S. I'm glad the BATFE is doing their job so we can now see just how bad the problem is. Also the gun forum says there are no "assault weapons" being sold. Thanks for proving otherwise.

Cite, please? I've never seen this claim here.

Here's the issue: Mexico does not tell us how many total weapons they seize in a year. They submit for tracing only those that can be reliably back-tracked to the U.S. (i.e. ones with clear markings of U.S. origin). We don't know what percentage of the total that is.

Of the ones succesfully traced to the U.S., there have been no break-downs of numbers or types, or who they were seized from. How many were actual "assault weapons"? How many were military assault rifles? How many were bolt-action hunting or target rifles? How many were hand-guns? How many came from actual drug/person smugglers/traffickers? How many from everyday Juan and Maria Gomez who simply wanted to be able to try to protect themselves from the smugglers/traffickers?

How many came from U.S. guns sold by our government to their government and then stolen by deserters, or in organized raids on government armories? Or smuggled in from non-U.S. lands?

Without that sort of context, any bulk numbers are meaningless, and your hysterical claims will be useless and unsupportable.

Get some detailed numbers and you'll have a talking point.

...They reported finding hundreds of pounds of marijuana, more than $63,000 in U.S. currency and three guns inside the homes. One of the recovered weapons, a Romarm/Cugir WASR-10 rifle, appeared in an official ATF Suspect Gun Summary document in November 2009, proving agents knowingly allowed the suspicious gun sale, months before the weapon turned up at the crime scene.

In a separate Glendale Police Department case, dated November 2010, detectives discovered “bulk marijuana and weapons” inside a residence near 75th Avenue and Bethany Home Road in Glendale. Investigators recovered nearly 400 pounds of drugs and several firearms from the home.

One of the recovered weapons, another Romarm/Cugir WASR-10 rifle, appeared in an official ATF Suspect Gun Summary document in February 2010....

... but the BATFE told them to proceed with the sales. Now people are dead because the people who are supposed to be cracking down on this trade are actually facilitating it. One wonders why.
