Child’s shooting death a ‘tragic accident’

A child who died from an accidental self-inflicted gunshot this weekend was looking for play money in his grandfather’s nightstand, authorities said.

Gavin Storey, 10, the son of Charles Blaize Sr. and Jennifer Storey, died instantly from the gunshot about 7 p.m. Sunday, said Police Chief Mike DeNardo.

Police said Gavin and his half-brother, Charles Blaize Jr., 13, were left alone at his grandparents’ house in Bay St. Louis while Don and Rita Watson went to the Our Lady of the Gulf Crab Festival to get dinner for themselves and the boys.

Charles told police Gavin was looking at a gun he’d found in Don Watson’s nightstand drawer while they were searching for a fake $1 million bill that Gavin wanted to see.
