Two Tampa officers suspended after inquiry finds horseplay led to gun going off
It was fun and games until the gun went off.

-----

It could have turned out much worse: The bullet struck one of the officers in his service belt, only bruising him.

-----

Officers Nick Wilson and Matt Simons raced in rolling chairs across a cubicle space in the Field Training and Evaluation area of District III, the headquarters at 3808 N 22nd St. that last week honored fallen Officers Jeffrey Kocab and David Curtis.

A letter of disposition says that Wilson pulled his Taser and Simons pulled his service pistol

"Their only intention being to playfully one-up each other in their goal for the key," the letter said.

If I was chief the one who pulled the gun would be suspended for more than a week if not outright fired! No excuse!

1. Yeah, fun and game, fully understandable. With a loaded gun.
Fire him and see whether he is indictable.

3. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
Given the fact that police ALWAYS carry their weapons with a round in the chamber, and most police forces today use Glocks which have no external safeties, drawing a police issue weapon is about ten times more dangerous than even using an ordinary gun as a toy, which in itself is stupid and reckless.

5. Besides Glocks most PD's pistols like M&P are similiar
in design. I think from what I've read not many require an external safety. Some do though because of officer AD's require a heavier trigger ala Glock's NY trigger.

4. Ah, so these are...
...the well trained experts that should only have guns as some here contend. Good reason why I don't rely on these folks for first-line protection.
