Guns bought at garage sales avoid background check
http://www.kold.com/story/15083040/garage-sale-guns-get-around-the-paperwork

Earlier this week, the Justice Department said gun shops in four Southwest border states, including Arizona, will be required to alert the federal government to frequent buyers of high-powered rifles.

It's an effort to track the flow of guns into Mexico.

What if they're buying somewhere else where a background check and registration are not required?

On any typical summer Saturday morning in Tucson, you can drive through nearly any neighborhood and find a yard sale or garage sale.

more gun insanity

yup

8. Ok explain
http://www.house.gov/house/Constitution/Constitution.html

The Commerce Clause is an enumerated power listed in the United States Constitution (Article I, Section 8, Clause 3). The clause states that the United States Congress shall have power "To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes".

Since a yard sale involves a completely intrastate transaction of a legal commodity just how does Congress have the power to regulate it? Selling guns and whiskey to the Indians?

9. Estate sales are more likely to have guns. Most gunners know they
can get more for them with a want-ad. I went to one that had $ hundreds of thousands in guns. The estate sale service brought in a FFL to run checks on buyers.

Yes, regulate garage sales for all "dangerous" items. That will go far.

5. How about DOJ worry about all those guns they sold that went across the border
instead of whining about garage sales

10. Because the DOJ is doing ever thing it can to cover up this scandal ...
They are also trying to divert attention from the investigation.

I suspect this is a much bigger story than we currently know. It keeps growing day by day.

6. Well, of course criminals spend their weekends cruising yard sales.
They never think to just steal guns.

No, they cruise the yard sales looking for that sweet single shot shotgun grandpa used to hunt with.

7. Wow, j, you're really on to something here....

or something.

By the way, there's no fucking registration here in Arizona. WTH is the reporter talking about? Fear-mongering at the subtle end....

11. We should start a "Dumb Fuck Reporter" Award
Give it out each month for the reporter that says the most absolutely Dumb Fuck firearm related comment on TV, Radio, Internet or in the Newspaper.

"Shotguns with Grenade Launchers" would be a good nominee for July.

I'm trying to image a 40 mm launcher under my break action, single shot 1946 Iver Johnson 12 gauge?

Might be a cheap way to scare up birds without a dog from a cut over corn field - and save the farmer plowing time too.

15. I nominate Carolyn McCarthy of New York...
...even though she's a (D) for the dumb fuck politician talking to a dumb fuck reporter award.

From Wikipedia...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Assault_Weapons_Ban

"In February 2007 a bill, H.R. 1022, called the Assault Weapons Ban and Law Enforcement Protection Act of 2007 sponsored by Representative Carolyn McCarthy of New York (D) was introduced that would reinstitute and expand the ban on assault weapons. It reduces the number of requirements for a firearm to be classified as an assault weapon from two to one... Tucker Carlson interviewed McCarthy concerning the Virginia Tech massacre and her proposed reauthorization of the Assault Weapons Ban. He asked her to explain the need to regulate barrel shrouds, one of the many provisions of the Act... After admitting that she did not know what a barrel shroud was, McCarthy incorrectly stated, "I believe it is a shoulder thing that goes up."

Freakin' dolt!

13. Estate sales are great...
...just picked up a .44 Special snubbie for under $300. Cash and carry after exchanging our DL and CCW info. It will make a great truck gun with 250 grain Keith LSWC's. What's the problem?

20. Yes they are!
About 5 years back, the wife and one of her girlfriends (they love to cruise estate sales) were attending an estate sale in a nearby town. The family of the deceased was selling a LNIB (like new, in-box) Sig P225 & an LNIB Sig P228. Sig USA had recently discontinued sales of both models to the civilian market, and I was looking to acquire both. The wife inquired about the price if she was willing to buy both and was told $550.00 for the pair. She didn't miss a beat before buying them...made a great Valentines day present.

22. Yep!
Any kudos are hers....as a gift it was exceptional. Of course, she loses a few points because after I'd had a chance to clean and inspect them, we went to the range the following weekend and after she had shot the P228, she declared, "This is mine!" and the only time I've been allowed to touch it since, is to clean it after she's taken it to range.

:mad:Irritating at the time, now a running joke in the family. A small price really to keep happy a woman who shares in this hobby/pasttime and who actually appreciates the quality and workmanship of the weapon - it's her EDC.

To fill out my collection, I had to buy one for myself - a 2-tone I found on an auction website.
