SUIT AGAINST COOK COUNTY ASSAULT WEAPON BAN SUCCEEDS IN STATE SUPREME COURT
Edited on Fri Jul-15-11 03:48 PM by DonP
This one didn't get much news coverage yet. but it's one more slap down of Chicago with more to come. Slowly but surely "Daleystan"/Chicago is rejoining the USA.

"A case brought against Cook County, challenging its “Assault Weapon” ban passed in 2006, has finally been decided favorably for the ISRA backed Plaintiffs. The case of Wilson, et al. vs Cook County et al., was returned to the State Appellate Court pursuant to the Supreme Court’s exercise of its judicial authority, and the First District Appellate Court has been ordered to vacate its decision and reconsider the case based on the recent decision in McDonald vs. City of Chicago and Ezell v. Chicago. McDonald was a landmark decision by the United States Supreme Court in which ISRA was one of the Plaintiffs."

"In a move that surprised all parties to the litigation, the First District Appellate Court ordered both plaintiffs and defendants to file simultaneous briefs in 15 days, with no Reply briefing allowed. The Appellate court’s Order came within days of the Supreme Court’s issued mandate, which directs the Appellate Court to vacate and reconsider."

"The purported “assault weapons,” as defined under the very broad and vague terms of the subject County Ordinance, include numerous semi-automatic handguns and rifles, including the Ar-15, M -1 Carbine, Smith & Wesson P99 pistol, Smith & Wesson 22A, Browning BAR Longtrack, Winchester Super X Rifle, and the Mini-30 Ranch Rifle just to name a few. Since the lawsuit was filed in early 2007, the enforcement of the Ordinance has been at a virtual stand-still."

3. Were you under the impression that the overturned ordinance actually prevented anything?
I would have thought that Virginia Tech (for example) would have put paid to the idea that gun ordinances are some sort of word

magic that cast a spell upon potential spree killers.

Or better yet, a quick look at Chicago's violent crime and murder rates....

8. You mean a mall like Lane Bryant was in?
Or maybe Brown's Chicken?

You really don't know shit about what you're talking about, and don't seem to want to take any time to even find out.

5. My God, the rightwing-dominated courts are helping the NRA ruin this country.
My heart goes out to Cook County.

America may be beyond coming to its senses.

6. There goes the gun-free, crime-free paradise that was Cook County.
Kinda makes you sad, doesn't it?

7. Right Wing court - in Illinois? LOL!!! You gotta be kidding me.
You can't be nearly as ignorant as you pretend to be about Illinois politics.

Dems have run this state, Cook County and pretty much every other facet of government since the 1930's with no serious interruptions.

Which of our justices do you think are right wing? Maybe it's that right wing nut Anne Burke, she's about has far right as Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Or do you even know who any of them are?

Didn't think so.

As usual, you're not one to let any facts get in the way of a good pointless rant.

In the meantime better get to your bunker and wait for the inevitable end.
