Government planning to set up office for DC’s lone gun dealer at police headquarters

If District of Columbia officials can’t find new office space for the district’s sole firearms dealer, they plan to set him up within D.C. police headquarters.

2. IIRC, they were playing stupid zoning rules games, not unlike Chicago.
The courts will eventually jack-slap them into compliance, but D.C. is going to throw a tantrum all the way to the inevitable.

And how better to discourage even perfectly legal potential purchasers than by the most blatent and direct police intimidation possible?

D.C. - Fucktards in Action.

5. The Chicago legal fee estimate is up to $5 million so far
When you combine MacDonald and Ezell (gun range case) they estimate the Chicago bill for legal fees will be around $5 million.

I'm confident the brain trust that makes these decisions, post Fenty, can run up an equally impressive set of bills, then blame it all on the NRA for suing them in the first place. They'll just raise property taxes to pay it off.

6. These kinds of cases need some sort of codicile....
to the effect that if the defending party is found to be in violation of the Constitution, all fees must be paid directly and immediately out of the politicians pockets. Up to and including immediate forfiture of personal real estate if they are short on cash.

That would be an incentive....

3. DC has effectively zoned him out of the district.
More 'too cute by half' measures-- zoning restrictions, long approval chain (the location has to be approved by DC police and the BATFE, as well as the city council.) Their unstated intent is to make it as hard as possible for residents to legally purchase a gun.

Sykes wasn't even actually selling guns- all he was doing were the transfers from other states into the district.

For those who do not recognize the name Josh Sugarmann is the head of the Violence Policy Center. The business address is VPC's headquarters in D.C. The zoning shenanigans of the DC council did not affect his license.

It should also be pointed out after the Clinton Administration decided to crack down on what groups like VPC characterized as "kitchen table dealers," that you are supposed to be in the gun business and a place of business open to the public if you have an FFL.

The deceit and hypocrisy of the anti-gun movement is boundless. The double standards of the DC administration are reprehensible. The pity is that it is the taxpayers who lose funding the relentless and losing legal wrangling. It is the Fenty and the council members that should have to pay the legal fees out of their personal fortunes.

The whole reason for finding him a space in police HQ or someplace is if he sues the District, he will win and they KNOW it.
