Woman shoots at puppy, kills husband instead...
(AP) JACKSON, Miss. — Police in Mississippi say a woman opened fire on a puppy that had threatened children, but wound up shooting and killing her husband.

Witnesses tell police that the pit bull named "Cocaine" had lunged at some children and tried to attack them on Friday. The dead man's son says the children were taken inside and his father picked the dog up.

It was then that police say Betty Walker fired twice, hitting the dog once and her husband once in the chest. Jackson police spokeswoman Colendula Green says the death of 53-year-old Robert Walker appears to have been accidental.

She says a Hinds County grand jury will decide whether to charge Betty Walker.

Above is pretty much the whole story...what I don't get is if this puppy was so threatening (nice name, though) how come the guy picked it up? How come the dog let him? I tend to think there's more to this.

3. Accidental my ass.
When she fired the gun, she meant to kill. Just because she killed the wrong target doesn't make it an accident. Or as Law & Order says: "Intent follows the bullet."

4. Yeah, that sounds fairly dubious.
Not that people can't be that stupid. But seeming stupidity can sometimes be a cover for malice.

6. "Cocaine"? The dogs owner could be exactly the kind of dumbass
that shouldn't have any dog, but especially one that can be dangerous. It's not real clear but must have been their dog and maybe the woman, the kind of dumbass that shouldn't have access to a gun, hated the dog.

9. She must have shot at the dog while her husband was holding it.
It sounds like something from "The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber" whose wife accidentally-on-purpose shot him when she realized he wasn't going to take her abuse anymore . . .
