Looks like the BATF and the Anti's, just got told "NO".. backlash continues.
As usual, more wins for the Civil Liberty side, more losses for the a "other side" The 15 year backlash continues.

A few bits from the article.

This week, the House of Representatives Appropriations Committee approved amendments blocking the use of federal funds to implement two controversial schemes by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and it rejected amendments proposing two of gun control groups’ other top priorities.

.....The Justice Department had announced earlier in the week that the BATFE would soon begin requiring dealers to file the reports on individuals who buy two or more detachable-magazine semi-automatic rifles larger than .22 caliber within a period of five business days.

“For more than a decade, efforts to track rifle purchases and create a national gun registry have failed to gain support in Congress, so the ATF is working to implement these regulations using rules written by unelected bureaucrats,” Rep. Rehberg said. “I’m going to keep this government accountable to the people.”..........

aka Lautenberg's "I was against it until I was for it." bill (house version)-- that would have the FBI place names of suspected terrorists on the NICS no-buy list.

Never-you-mind that a significant portion of these names don't correspond to a single person; correspond to foreign nationals who are already prohibited from purchasing firearms via retail channels that NICS is utilized for; and have no due process, if an actual us citizen were to fall afoul of this stinker.

4. meanwhile
Fast and Furious was part of Project Gunrunner, a broad A.T.F. program aimed at stemming the flow of guns to criminal groups in Mexico. Since it began in 2006, Gunrunner has seized more than 10,000 firearms and led to the arrests of more than 800 suspects. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/16/us/16guns.html?_r=3&smid=tw-nytimes&seid=auto

5. And unknown deaths....
Here is just one

Some of those guns were traced to the killing of a Border Patrol agent last December.

Agent Brian Terry was killed during a routine patrol.

The guns found at the crime scene were tagged and had once been in the ATF's control.

Special agents explained that as part of the controversial program dubbed "Fast and Furious"

I wonder how many more will be tied to deaths???

At least 150 so far in Mexico..

Awful lot of blood running, for an "investigation" don't you think?
